Thanks for the great post Claire (even if I do think that Tertre Rouge has been improved as massively as the run down to The Esses has been massacred......). I think James and I tend to spend more time at TR than anywhere else during the week - it's a stunning place to view, day or night, IMO.

I think that we've had this conversation before - I used to marshal at that post in those days and goose bumps are inadequate to describe the feeling - brings happy tears to my eyes just to think about it. It will always be the greatest race in the world but it does'nt have quite the same magic (diesels, the esses, floodlit Tetre Rouge etc.) but maybe I'm just getting old

Most likely he thinks he is fed up with it but wont realise how much he will miss it until the weekend itself. A number of our long term members have on occasion missed a year for whatever reason and mostly they missed it immensely and came straight back the following year. So I think we can expect to see Mr Tyler back in 2013

As a photographer who has only been attending since 1998 i've not seen all the changes but certainly some of the more devasting ones. I wish the ACO had thought to themselves ok we've to cut down trees here to make the corner less tight and the room for spectators a little better, but i think we should replant the trees just back a bit to retain the ambiance and sense of history.
I'm hopefully going back this year, first since 2009. I know there will be more changes and i know i will get somewhere and be told "you can't stand there" (in French obviously!), and i will curse it for large parts of the 24 hours and promise thats it for me. Then it doesn't take long...usually only the Sunday night where we sit down and talk and we say i wonder if you went to such and such at such and such time, what would it be like, or took a longer lens, or, or, or... The new Le Mans forces you out your comfort zone, its not as immediately appealing as it was only 10 years ago, to drivers, fans, snappers, all of us...but i still can't wait to go! |

Any idea who, if anyone, will replace Graham in the pit lane?
Could it be Jaime Howe? |

Tricky one this, I am lucky enough to have caught the tail end of the Grp 5/6 era, all the Grp C and now the current era, 31 races in total.
Sure the place has changed and not always for the worse. The camping facilites are much better now, the village had fallen into decay, it could have been done more with more of a nod to the one it replaced, but even that was not the original, but its tidy and easy to get around. The track has been butchered at the esses, i can never forgive that but Terte rouge is better now. The loss of the trees is sad, but access was needed. The cars, well they have evolved as one would expect. I dont mind the diesels, it proves its not a spec class with a various routes available to teams. Could the ACO do more to even things up? maybe but thats the problem when you have works teams against private teams. Even when wet the Audi(s) were streets ahead. Will I be going this year? yes. Do i miss the old days? yes. Do I still enjoy it? yes. Do I look forward to each year? yes. You cannot stop change, my first years were only a moment in time and the track had evolve to that. The 80's are my referance point for the changes, others will have different dates. |

Not quite sure what the last post had to do with RLM!
Anyway, the first part of the countdown to LM is on RLM tonight (29th) at 20:00 (BST) |

Nah, the LM previews have all been in this way since TD have been sponsoring RLM. So there's 30-35 min of LM preview talk, then 25-30 min of travel tips, then back to LM preview talk.
