Interesting to see BMW quite far up ahead by their usual Friday-standards. Usually they take it slow in the FP sessions. Interesting.

Also interesting to see Honda right at the bottom of the............oh wait, that's not really that interesting is it.

I'm sure that Jenson will improve in Practice 3,but really that Honda seems to be falling back from the mid-field pack.I don't think that they are even battling with the STRs now!

Well Honda admitted long ago theyre focusing on 2009 now. They wont be producing any more parts for the car except the Monza package probably.

I have to say that I have lost what little respect for Honda that I ever have. For a manufacturer to be languishing down there is, frankly, appalling and for non-fans laughable.

And, as for the Earth Dreams vision from the multinational gas guzzling giant from a country with a very poor record on curbing greenhouse gas emissions ... there's a great quote on their website:

"Everyone has a dream or passsion ... The Honda Racing F1 Team commits to giving its support to helping inspirational people around the world turn theirs into a reality."

Perhaps they should start with their own rather than focussing on others, how ever worthy they may be!

Jenson - get out of there whenever you can - you'd be far better off in a Force India!

Sadly I think he's lost his chance now. The Honda is, as you say, dreadful, and getting worse. How can any company really justify the expense? The results can't be selling cars. Personally I'd have a Ford before a Honda and they're not racing anymore!

As FPV GTHO said: Brawn had written off '08 right from the start. '09 should be a better indicator of whether Honda is actually properly moving forward.

Besides, those were just Friday times. Not that important, really.

Many are focussing on the same with the change of rules and technology - but is it just me thinking it, or is Nick Fry a very lucky man not to be taking full flack for the total lack of technical leadership in the team.

What has Fry done to warrant his massive salary apart from oversee a steadily declining team since Dave Richards left?

My questions is why on earth (dreams) have him and Ross Brawn?

Fry is from a commercial background, not an technical one. Yes, there has been a lack of technical leadership under Fry, but that won't stop him excelling in his current role. Similarly if Brawn was in sole charge, Honda would no doubt be strong techinically, but they may also be weak commercially.

It looks to me like Honda are definitely sinking all there efforts into 2009.Teams like BMW,Renault etc may find themselves disadvantaged next season if they concentrate too much on trying to finish in third and fourth places.

(Sorry Sodemo and Knowls but minor rant about to begin on Honda again!)

To me Fry comes across as a typical PR-type. Always hanging around in camera shot. Smiling inannely like someone on prozac. Patting people on the back who are working hard ... "well done, what's your name, yes that wheel looks really heavy, is that a fronty or backy one?" - I may be wrong but I've seen people who give off a simliar look many times before.

I think the whole Honda brand and image is being shot in F1.

If Honda hope the public will judge and value their name and product by their F1 performance - key images that currently spring to mind are slow, loser, underperforming, embarrasing to drive, plagued by technical problems, shiny on the outside with little under the hood. I wouldn't buy one based on their F1 image.

And, if Earth Dreams the pinnacle of his commercial prowess, I'd be more confident trying to sell farm manure sponsorship for the front wing of that team!

I'm serious - the Honda brand at the moment is awful and that is the commercial department and specialist's issue and problem!
