Instructors?

Hi Again Guys

I've decided to go with Silverstone for my ards test.

Does anyone know/recommend any instructors to go get some practice/tuition with?
I'd like to get some practice/circuit knowledge etc before the test day as I beleive it will be invaluable to me!

Cheers

I would be more concerned about the written/flag questions. The driving is just to show you're competent behind the wheel. When you do get out there just take note on what you are told to do,thats the reason why an instructor is sitting next to you.You must be reasonably competent by actually going along to do it in the first place. Good luck!

Wise words from Terence- concentrate on the written test and especially what flags mean. If you are competent behind the wheel on the road then driving part should be OK.
The instructor will be more interested in control- weight transfer, balance, steering input, etc than any carlos fandango stuff....

Have fun

Can't be that wise Mike, not reading between the lines on that other new thread.

However,to pick up on a point that you have mentioned,ie,weight transfer etc, there will be a classroom demo on what happens under acceleration/braking.Just explaining how the transfer goe's rearwards under acceleration and vise versa under braking. These are the kind of mental notes you should be memorising for the written part.As Mike said, have fun,do as you're told WHEN you're told, you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about shortly after it all.

Cheers Guys

Terence I'll take your word on it! Plus I suppose will save some money too!
I shall denifitley be reading anything in the bluebook that may help me.

If theres one thing I was gonna do on the day then it would be to do EXACTLY as I'm told!

Unfortuanatley I have a long wait until my medical exam before I can go.

Cheers again

Sorry for tagging onto this post, but I dont suppose anyone knows a doctor in the North West area that is happy to do private medicals for ARDS tests as I am not a regular visitor to an NHS surgery and the doctor I registered with screwed me about, took over two months to agree to make me an appointment then accused me of being late and buggered off before I got there.

If anyone knows of anyone I am happy to pay whatever fee they need to sign the form so I can finally attempt my ARDS test.

Regards, Brian.

Tagging on too. Does anyone know which circuits run ARDS courses using Front-Wheel Drive cars? I've never driven a RWD car in anger, so don't fancy making my mistakes in the test. I'm also never likely to drive a RWD car in a race.

I'm looking at Croft, Donington, Oulton, Mallory.

Make the trip to Knockhill and you'll get one of their brand new Leon Cupras they've just taken delivery off.

I took mine 2 odd years ago in their then new Cupras and they were some car!

The Driving Technique is pretty much the same-front or rear,as you will not be 'driving in anger' so to speak,I wouldn't let it worry you.

3 Sisters were running Mini Cooper S's in 2008 when I took mine, could be worth a call

Hi Guys

Very long overdue update, I finally was able to get my ARDS test sorted after various life changes in the past year and half and passed this morning at silverstone!

Was very pleased with the test, 100% on the written paper (not that I haven't had plenty of time to practice...) and the instructor was very helpful so couldn't ask for any more.

Thanks to all you guys on here for your tips and advice all that time ago!

Hopefully can hit the track for real later this year!

No idea right now, all comes down to what I can afford! (Usual excuse I know!)

Sportscars or maybe single seaters would be my preferred choice but I would be open to any suggestions or ideas from others.

The only provision is I am not really in a situation to be able to buy my own car (space etc) so renting a drive is realistically my only option.

Have a look at Sports 2000. Close racing, enforced driving standards and low cost, and some of the quickest things out there! www.sports2000-srcc.com there are details of hire cars available on the home page. A high proportion of starters in Pinto are novices.

www.asgmotorsport.com is my own page. I run in both the Pinto and Duratec classes

Well done choc ice.

To put a more straight-forward rather than cynical/sarcastic response to your sponsorship ambitions (i'm usually better at cynical/sarcastic, so bear with me):

99.9% of all company logos you see on club-level race cars are a business to do with the car's owner/car's owner's associates. This way, they can assist the funding of the car through the business as 'marketing & advertising' and take advantages of the tax benefits.

You will have a job trying to find anyone willing to throw money at you so that you can have a weekend jolly in a series that isn't televised or takes place infront of about 50 spectators.

Have a look at series that you can afford off your own back. Stock hatch is a good place to start, or something like an MG Midget. And unfortunatley, if you want to go sown the route of paying someone else to maintain/run your car for you, your looking at a heck of alot more cost again.....

All the best.
