That's Bottas' car on the left hand side of the track, in the distance. Last edited by bjohnsonsmith; 26 Oct 2019 at 20:36. |

Verstappen couldn't see the yellow flag, despite the flag, his engineer, and Verstappen all confirming it. To prove this, here's a video from a different driver, 12 months ago.
Cool, well this thread has jumped the fanboi shark. |

Would have liked to have seen Max and Honda on the pole. But I agree with the stewards on this one. Drivers must slow when the see a crash and yellow flag.

He had pole in the bag. Oh dear. We love him, but still a little bit of growing up to do.
Him and Leclerc will be fun, still both making mistakes. Although a different kind. |

Let's see where they pull that penalty reasoning out of their ass this time. The rule states the time is taken off the board, guessing they've used the catch all because we said so rule for that.
That said, this is EXACTLY why the code 60s and all that other police yourself as drivers bs will get someone killed. And why it will never fly in a US based series at least. The lawyers would have a field day with the lawsuits. The drivers simply won't slow consistently, Vettel did today but had been accused of not in the past as have most drivers. |

Nevermind the yellow flag, the real crime in my opinion is why the hell would they have a blunt barrier sticking out on an outside corner???
Bottas is lucky he was able to step out of the car after hitting. It could have been worse. Even whatshisname commentator guy said he didn't like that barrier. That barrier should be rectified prior to the race. It shouldn't have been like that in the first place. Sent from my SM-G955W using Tapatalk |

Where was the tarmac run off? That is what is needed, it’s what the fans demand. Oh, er,.
OK there is a middle ground, but |

Agreed, that's quite dangerous. If he had hit the wall 50m later his speed at that point would've been even higher.
On the penalty. It's fully justified, what a daft move and comment afterwards. He (and us) are lucky that it's only 3 places so he still has a shot. Still another learned hopefully he can take on board before he really is in a WDC season. |

AFIAK Bottas got onto the kerbs before the turn and it sucked him onto the wall. Does anyone know if he had a steering failure?
Agreed the outcome was pretty nasty due mainly to the end of the barrier but since it is so tight for space I'm not sure what they could do. As to Max. I'm not entirely sure why waved double yellows should be treated any less than waved single yellows. A yellow flag means "slow down and be prepared to stop" in most racing circles. Max didn't do this and deserved a penalty. But I think the real reason he got penalised was because he basically boasted about it in the post race conference. Quote:

As someone who has been a part of the marshalling comunity and have been handing out decisions on driving standards I would have given Verstappen more than a 3 place penalty. Some day he will be in Bottas's position and wonder why the next young gun has hit his car while in bits at the side of the track.
If he did not see the yellow flag but he did see Bottas's car that means there should be a yellow flag and there was probably a green flag at the corner exit that would have only gone out after the yellow flag was displayed at the previous post. I have heard of drivers to slowing on seeing the green flag so they can say they lifted off. |

Let's hope there is less controversy in the race. It will be good to see who can make progress today
