Just stick them in the tyre barrier. Suitable punishment and extra cushioning in the event of an off...

Hi all, has anyone got a link to Jonny Macs prang . . . I cannot seem to find any info except what I read on here.
As an aside to that, this is one Aussie who sends a huge well done to the NZ promoters, track owners, and competitors . . . I can seriously see this series eclipsing V8 Supercars in no time at all |

That's interesting & if this is true... With all of the recent focus on up-sizing roll cage diameter & strength for basic 'Schedule A' cars, I'm quite surprised that these mounts have obviously been designed under spec... No vehicle would pass a basic T.S.A cert for use at open road speeds if they were designed with such a fault. Everyone demands safer tracks and now it looks like they have jeopardised driver safety to save a few pounds (woops... kgs on a so called ''structure of the future"??? Has anyone heard of any other 'under strength' or fatigued areas they should worry about as these cars click up the ks'? Please take into account when criticizing this view, that I have not seen a photo of the broken mounts, so I may be over reacting? But safe tracks start with the design & construction of the vehicles that race on them.. |

Maybe we need another thread about car safety....
I have not heard what actually broke, but if it was seat mounts I'd be interested to know why, how or whether they were different to "normal" race seat mounts. Although JM was going pretty quick when he hit, and it was sideways, but no way the seat should have moved like that. Remember years ago in F1 they decided to put tether straps on the wheels to stop them flying off in the event of an accident, these were composite and supposedly very strong, but soon after we saw one come adrift and a wheel go bouncing off after a shunt. Sometimes maybe a bit more engineering calculation and quality control needs to be used for driver safety measures. Just my thoughts anyway. |

Sorry about that.. Bit off topic. Not an engineer, so I probably couldn't add any more without shooting myself in the foot... |

waste of te responding
all harness lap belts had to be modified to complie. Seats move and under that impact im not shocked at it doing that.
That crash was caused by his team doing a stupid thing with a brake hose and nothing more. |

Otherwise see Blackpearl's post. Story ends. Given that JM walked away from a shunt that has been described as ranging from 197 to 240kph I'd say all the safety stuff worked pretty well. No need for a witch hunt methinks |
