I also was quite upset with the telecast cutting to some boofhead yabberring about AFL. I'll be writing to channel 10 asking them not to do that again. I found it totally offensive.

As for the juiced up celebrity, Channel 10 always pull in a couple of celebs for a pit interview. Last year it was Gretel from Big Brother...can't remember who it was the year before.

I tell you what though, I think everyone who saw that thinks Ralph the Pedders boy was on something.

I think it's pretty hard to say that Adelaide's lost its magic - the venue is still superb and the trackside atmosphere, I'm sure, would be fantastic.

As for the racing, however, then the V8 Supercar Series in general has a lot of work to do. I think the system of penalties is to blame for it as much as anything else. Drivers are afraid to have a go now in case they get slapped with a McDonald's penalty for scratching the paint off another rival's mirror...

BTCC 2001 (Touring Class) may only have had four competitive cars, but at least there was still the usual biff 'n' barge nature that we all love about Touring Car racing.

Oh, and don't get me started on the telecast.

All I'll say is that I went out on Friday night and bought two four hour tapes for the race. I was most disappointed to say the least at the fact that - minus ads - came to less than three hours.

My new TV ain't designed for so many ads. Not a happy little bubby...

The length of the add breaks were pretty long as well.

Yeah, I think they averaged - excuse the pun, No Bull - five minutes of telecast followed by three to four minutes of ads prior to the race. In other words, even worse than Bathurst last year...

Put it this way- the more ads, the more money 10 makes, the more likely they are to show motorsport in future

I found it was much quicker to simply tape the races and watch them in FForward... then you don't have to put up with the commentary or the ads!

I was pretty disappointed with Saturdays race compared to the Saturday race last year. I was taping and cutting the adds out but Sunday I did some work in the yard all day and decided if the Sunday race was any good I'd edit it on after the Saturday race and cut the adds out.

The second half of race was brilliant, the ads are getting worse and worse, the same stupid ones over and over, my advice is NEVER watch motorsport on TEN live. Always tape it and FF over the ads.

The celebrity qualifying, WTF who wants to see that? I'd only heard of 4 of them anyway. if you want celebrities, get someone who is well known.

The AFL bit was one of the most appalling stunts ever pulled by a TV network. Deeply offensive to every motor sport fan in Australia. How dare they? I was almost distraught.

Moving Baz to the pits was probably a good idea, didn't seem like it at first, but he did a better job down there.

Is it me or do 10 have the longest ad breaks during motor racing? Upto 4 minutes is way too long, the viewing public shouldn't have to put up with that.

Is there any sort of rules or guidelines that the networks have to stick by?

There used to be government regulations regarding the frequency and duration of ad breaks on TV, but when the industry was deregulated, like everything else lately, those rules went out the window and now it is up to the networks to decide what they think is appropriate and behave accordingly.

Of course it does - like any street circuit, buy a grand stand seat for a race and you will see cars magically appear and disappear all day long - no hope in hell of seeing anything other than what is immediately in front of you and maybe 100 metres to the left and right

That isn't the case Mr Racetime... On the Gold Coast last year I was lucky enough to spend time in a appartent belonging to a certain forum member on the inside of the Indy track. It had a grand view of the cars coming down one straight, and up the other. But to be honest, nobody could be bothered tilting our heads to the side, as there was better 'spectating' to be done elsewhere Besides, it was on TV (once I told them to turn the thing on) and there was lots of cold beer (if you understood the whacky fridge system.... yes, you know who you are.... ). Magic

Adelaide's probably the best street circuit there is, but if you're a paying gen admission punter it's bloody difficult to get a decent spot with all the freeloading corp marquees all over the place...

As for cutting to the footy, unfortuantely guys there's more people will care about the footy than who's winning in Adelaide. Unfortuantely you'll have to get used to it, cause I dont see Ten changing...

It just really tweaked my melons that 15 minutes into a motorsport telecast they starting chatting about the AFL.

I'm watching motorsport because I want to see motorsport. If I want to watch AFL or League I'll have myself labotomised accordingly.

Dont disagree, Bucky... But just saying what my mate at Ten told me. There's more use to them in footy than motorsport...

As soon as Ten announced their deal with the AFL I saw this as a threat V8 coverage. I'll have to dig out the thread I posted at the time and post a link here to it.

A case of history repeating itself possibly, but will it reach the levels it did in 95-96.

So what actually happened with this football incident? I missed the first half of race one, did they just talk about the football or show bits of it? How long did they do this for?
