This seems like a problem that is isolated to the United States and created by the TV companies. |

Maybe not "TV companies", but more of media groups that hold multi facets of telecommunication and drive everything through the cheapest medium. Much like other large corporations and industries, they are very slow to change, especially if it impacts the CEO's salary and dividends.

I'd say the real "driving force" (which in this case is a retarding force) are the advertisers ... who probably notice that people demand no or fewer ads in their online streams (they are already paying for them) and that online ads seem not to be as effective as TV ads.
Advertisers still see broadcast TV as the Mecca of advertising outreach, followed by cable TV, going down the tiers (which is why FS1 is so coveted compared to FS2---sponsors will pay more for the Chance to be in front of more eyeballs.) Advertisers depend on repetition, too .... but web-watchers seem to really dislike streams with a lot of commercials. Also, people can fast-forward through commercials on a recorded stream, which makes YouTube commercials pretty much worthless. We as fans look at the race broadcast from a fan's point of view. For the series it is a revenue center (a view which killed ALMS, IMO) to be sold in small chunks for large dollars. That's why Fox doesn't care that it makes races almost unwatchable with its frequent breaks ... it is making money with each ad, and if people cannot follow the race, who cares? Fox got the money for the subscription, and got money for the advertisement. Advertisers count on the TV format for new viewers because they can sample the entire TV population ... anyone using any kind of TV-Guide function can see any program. Nobody is going to randomly scroll through three hundred thousand YouTube channels and think "Hey, some racing thing I have never heard of! Yahoo!" but (at least in the thinking of TV folks) a person might be scrolling through the much more limited channel list provided by cable and broadcast TV and see some racing series .... |

Interesting, they certainly seem to be very intent on hoovering up every reporting outlet out there. And they must be doing very well, bearing in mind all of United Autosports' current plans!

I know that I got an infraction before, but has anyone use other chat apps to discuss sportscar racing such as Discord?

Given RLM seem to take every chance they can to slag off motorsport.com, and any link to that site is banned on their forum and facebook group, I don't think so.
Will be interesting to see what they do when motorstv want commentary from something their doing for the TV. |

I dream of the day where John Hindbaugh and John Watson which are my two favorite commentators are together in the booth doing commentary. I think the Spa 24 would be the only chance of that ever happening since it looks like we did see a little bit of collaboration between RadioLeMans.com and SRO during the 2016 Spa 24 (for the first time ever I think). In 2017 it would be cool if they were all one broadcast team.

Also, sponsors have their names all over the cars, along the track, in view of the onboard cameras, etc. so there is already a lot of built-in exposure for sponsors. I think streaming is more cost-effective, a better medium and a better package. How many views of a sponsors name do you get on a 12-hour stream as compared to a two-hour highlight? |

Errrr.... what? They own the pages/forums etc... they can do what they like. It's their business. Eve and John do amazing work, and if they don't want to allow posts for other places, well, that's their deal.

We will see how it goes. I'm more of a fan of the traditional tv commentators who follow more of what is going on in the tv pictures.

Well, if MotorsTV is stepping in, and there is more money in TV than in radio .... i guess Mr. Hindhaugh is getting squeezed out.
So ... as the comments on the article note, even fewer people will pay for the lame WEC stream now ..... |

I think the quality of the broadcast from IMSA TV at VIR which you can see on Youtube IMSAOfficial was exceptional. They have been great. But I think this races in especially good. I think it was a combination of things. 1)VIR lends itself with its scenic landscaping 2)all green flag racing 3)all GT racing. 4)Owen Trinkler was a great addition 5)Seeing all of the pre race festivities 6)Very good helicopter shots from the air but not overdone.
Ditching the fox stream for the IMSA radio/TV stream for the race replays which they did starting in the middle of 2016 was one of the best moves the IMSA organization has made since the merger in terms of media/broadcasting. |
