www.sportmotores.es reports Carlos Sainz is likely to repeat with Volkswagen Motorsport this year. He will test at Scirocco wheel during the coming weekend in VLN.

And your argument isn't logical. If the RSR shows that it's quicker than a GT3 now, it will receive a restrictor cut. Better to run with the Cup cars now and go all out at the 24h, having an advantage over the others. |

Monza FIA GT2 and GT3 trap speeds probably show that the GT3s are faster there... Nordshleife straights are damn long too
And outside of the always-unreliable Alzen Alien, the best cars lately have been generic Porsches sooped-up to win overall. Well they want the generic GT2 RSR Porsche to be replaced by the GT3 variety... and to be joined by the dozen of GT3 racers that are just as fast! |

Manthey has already won the first round of VLN in the RSR. Again - the RSR is quicker around the track; but it lacks on top speed in relation to the Cup S |

It depends how you interpret "close to stock".
The RSR uses the same block as the the road going RS. Obviously the capacity has been increased to 4.0L |

I don't know exactly how this applies to the RSR, but they certainly wouldn't exempt that from the restrictor rules after having written them to stop the RSRs dominance. If that car can ran without a restrictor they might as well mail Manthey the trophy now. |

Its not just about restricting the RSR, its also about "not" restricting certain GT3 cars.
This is what Olaf Manthey had to say about the April 1st rule change: "“On Wednesday, April 1st, they gave out a new regulations bulletin which allowed GT3 cars without a Balance of Performance test to still take part in the GT3 Class on the Nordschleife. When I first read this I thought it was an April fool’s joke, but apparently it wasn’t. " |

I don't think that will apply to many cars though - it only refers to older models that aren't used internationally anymore, and they'll use the spec from the last balance of performance that was done.
Manthey is very good at what he does, but he also loves to complain. In other news, the Land RSR was destroyed yesterday in an attempt to beat the Nordschleife record. Not sure if they can rebuild it before the race - they probably don't have that big a budget anymore now that Bilstein has pulled out. |

Could only find one: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2...eundnordsc.jpg
Someone who apparently saw the car said it's worse than the pic suggests. |

WOW!! That is one secondhand RSR. I see a 7:03 was done the lap before but what were they ultimately aiming for as far as lap times are concerned?
Hope the driver was okay, I see him get out of the car, anyone know how he fared?? |

Do they VLN RSRs run a different wing than ACO/ALMS cars? Pic seems to be a different style of support and higher than the ALMS cars or is it just the post wreck angle?

I'm pretty sure they do, the VLN run to their own rules so I don't think the wings have to be ACO legal.

The car is going to be rebuilt for the 24h, but might not be ready for any VLN races before that. |

That crash sucks. I like the team a lot.
Good thing though that Toto Wolff is well enough and has not suffered injuries heavier than he has. |

Glad he is alright, the crash shouldn't put the team in serious trouble though since Mr. Wolff does have a very deep pocket.

Land sure has experience with rebuilding their Porsches after classic big ones on the Nordschleife. Remember when Basseng (or was it Lieb?) rolled the 996 RSR, replete with fantastic onboard footage of the incident?

Audi has confirmed their four R8 LMS entries for this years race:
Audi R8 LMS #97 (Abt Sportsline) Christian Abt (D) Jean-François Hemroulle (B) Pierre Kaffer (D) Lucas Luhr (D) Audi R8 LMS #98 (Phoenix Racing) Marc Basseng (D) Frank Stippler (D) Mike Rockenfeller (D) Audi R8 LMS #99 (Phoenix Racing) Frank Biela (D) Marcel Fässler (CH) Emanuele Pirro (I) Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) Audi R8 LMS #100 (Abt Sportsline) Mattias Ekström (S) Timo Scheider (D) Marco Werner (D) Four works-backed cars, combined with the new, extremely GT3-friendly regs.... this will be a complete Audi show. Mind you, all of this is of course completely coicidencial to the fact that Audi is a long-time sponsor of the 24h race..... |
