Really interesting AMR-Prodrive article about the new 4.0L twin turbo DB11 GT racer.
https://www.pistonheads.com/features...ph-meets/37747 Utterly love the hot-V V8 motor, it would look great in the back of an LMP1 privateer car .....and even more on DSC!!!! http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...-prodrive.html fwooooaaarrrrrrr |

25 cars, but nothing @ all. Less manufacturer. No A. Martin, no Bentley, no McLaren, no Lexus. An italian gtopen base in Spain. Only the new ETCR

26 GT3 cars, GT Open carrying on their bounce back from low teens in 2016...
http://www.dailysportscar.com/wp-con...Entry-List.pdf Solid enough entry, 10 Huracans, so not as diverse as Blancpain or ADAC, but should make for some good racing none the less |

A quick tip that I discovered about the Gt Open videos on youtube. If you only listen using the left side of your ear plugs. You'll get the engines only free of the commentary. I wish other series has that ability too. Commentary is good for the first time watching a race, but no commentary makes for a good reason to replay it. |

Good entry for this weekends Spa round. http://www.gtopen.net/en/news/3102/2...ited-spa-round
Cioci and Griffin should be a great addition. |

That being said, they got solid grids at their other rounds this year as well, so they really seem to have things turned around now. |

What a bizarre qualifying session, never seen so much car to car contact outside of a race.

GT Open was best around 2012-13 when GTE and GT3 ran together. I think the series should open up to GTLM cars once more A need for more diversity is needed I think. The best sprint series in GT racing today is ADAC Gt Masters. But I actually would rank GT Open ahead of Blancpain GT Sprint which is in a sorry state right now. And we all know that PWC in North America is just about dead.

Does anyone know what is different in BOP between GT Open and SRO?

I think part of the Blancpain sprint race problem is the tracks they run at.
Zolder, Misano, Brands Hatch ? IMO they don't offer many overtaking possibilities. Put drivers of comparable ability in cars of comparable capabilities (all BOP'ed) and lets them race nose-to-tail on a track with limited overtaking possibilities and what do you get? Not that exciting races, as far as I am concerned. In the mean time, GTOpen races at Spa, Paul Ricard, Monza and Silverstone. I think those tracks offer better opportunities for race action. OK, I'm not convinced about Hungaroring (Blancpain Sprint goes there too) or Barcelona, and I have no idea about Estoril. Furthermore GTOpen works with success seconds instead of BOP. A well-driven successful car is put back, but can still be the fastest and come through the pack or try to get as high up as possible. I'm not saying everything is perfect but IMO there's a lot more action in the GTOpen races than there is in Blancpain Sprint. |
