Interesting that you should mention someting like that.... Because the ALMS usually does events in larger media markets at or near their events with local and state police and Highway Patol offices with a few of their prototypes as a media event to promote "safe driving," "Seat belt laws (to save lives)" campaigns, and with other groups to combat drunk driving... The events seem to be very successful, and the cars actually run on the city streets in those markets as part of the event.... Something else that has been done here in open-wheeled racing that I would love to see the ALMS and the LMES do.... The IRL and OWRS have built "two-seaters".....here at Indy, they take celebrities, local media personalities (prime drive radio on-air people, sportscasters, news anchors, sports and feature writers, etc.) for laps in the jump seat at the Brickyard.... they ar detuned to a small degree...the IRL two-seater runs about 30 mph slower than the real thing....but 185-190 mph laps on the racing line has to be really cool for these media types... Those media types are talking on-air for DAYS about how cool it is to be running hot laps on a circuit at "speed," and they become big fans who push for the public to go to the event.... |

The big European tracks for sportscars, barring Le Mans, are not necessarily so clear cut. Some of the big one, Reims and Vila Real to name a few, aren't around any more.
1. Spa-Francorchamps 2. Nurburgring Nordschleife (in the pas) (Currently it would probably be Brands Hatch) 3. Monza 4. Silverstone (In the past, I might have had the Osterreichring in this slot.) 5. BRNO 6. Donington Park 7. Nurburgring (new) 8. Estoril This is more from a historical standpoint. It's hard to say what, if any, changes have occurred recently. |

Stephane Ratel - CEO of SRW Events, says, "Donington is probably the best example we have of the growing success of the LG Super Racing Weekend and we believe that will continue. Three years ago, we had 6000 spectators at the track, two years ago that number increased to 12,000, with 25,000 attending last year. Furthermore, we have attracted a major corporate sponsor, John Guest (specialists in high-quality fittings for a wide range of industries including automotive), that will continue to help and support the event for the third year running."
This is the kind of growth the LMES will be aiming for. |

Hello all, I desparately would love to go to the Silverstone race but having done some research it looks like the race is on Saturday evening! Not having a car, I was banking on public transport to get to Silverstone and back on the assumption the race was on Sunday afternoon!
What I would like to know is, does any of the forum members with a car live in or around London or any of the surrounding counties ie. Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire etc. Would such persons be kind enough to offer me a ride? Assuming they themselves are going to the race too. Of course, the person will be compensated for their time, that is not a problem. I'm more than willing to meet at a place convenient for that person too. I just want a way of getting to the circuit and back without having to sleep on a park bench somewhere! Regards George |

The Silverstone race has now been officially confirmed apparently.
As for cg7aa, there are camping facilities at the circuit as well as the regular hotels. |

It'll be interesting to see how many actually go through the gates.
Motorsport attendances in the UK have been lousy for ages, with exceptions like Castle Combe, with it's home GT and Saloons series having great local following. They quite often get more spectators at their clubbie events than British F3 get, but JYS says that spectators are not important to F3. Errr... what about the sponsors who want max media presence? And thus the drivers that need the sponsors. Enough off topic... I remember when ALMS were here a few years back, and Silverstone was very quiet indeed in terms of spectators. I didn't watch much of the race as I was working on the infield Stowe circuit at the time billy baiting.... Rob. |

I still can not find out any ticket information myself, hopefully all will be clear in the next few weeks.
As for the race lets hope it is as good as the two races we have already had. Now does anyone know what the maximum numbers of starts on the Silverstone GP Track is, as I reckon there might be up 46 cars on the entry - thats the 41 from this weekend plus the 2 TVR's, Nasamax, Zytek and Turaus. I can not wait. |

Obviously there will be no problem getting tickets, but there should be a discount for advanced tickets. Also I might well camp so it makes it easy to watch the following day. Do you think they'll be any evening entertainment for the weekend. If only a bar and maybe like at the old historic festival the 'big man'?
