In rally (WRC, S2000) they convert from FWD to AWD.
If it's a rule so everybody has to switch to RWD I don't think it's a problem. |

The Argentine Top Race uses RWD prototype cars with Passat, Mondeo and Vectra silhouettes.

I believe Ford and Vauxhall experimented with RWD back in the early 90s (BTCC) but they couldn't get the gearbox to supply enough power or something.

And there's my problem. The NGTC rules get very close to the line but for me, at least, they are just about ok. Moving away from the original drivetrain is one way of crossing the line. Touring cars are supposed to be production based (DTM and similar are not, to me, touring cars) and one of the keys to that has to be the drivetrain. As well as full spaceframes and so on...
Personally, especially given where economies are right now, NGTC is by a long way the best option. A bit more power than currently (320 - 330bhp ultimately seems right to me), spec subframes etc to keep costs down, but sticking with the original drive layout - the balance of that is about right as far as I'm concerned. |

They said they would present the new regs this weekend. Have they?

If they're going to, they should have a press conference. One would think. Don't you have media accreditation? No invite sent then I suspect. And since you're part of a team you probably know more, though I respect you may not be at liberty to say. If the teams do not know yet, well, it's a bit worrying if a series chooses a new set of regulations without really talking to the ones who actually pay (or have to find the money) for the spectacle.

No press conference and no information on a decision for the new regs yet. Has been delayed.

I wonder what the reason for that could be. Hope they decide soon tho, so the teams will have time to build new cars.
However, have they said anything about a transition period between the S2000 and the new regs, or are S2000 cars a total no-no for 2012? |

Best case: Just waiting for the official presentation of the BTCC-Avensis at Brands to have a quick look at the finished product before they give the go-ahead.
