It's reasonably similar, the TRS, to what it was back in those Tasman days, but just lower down the ladder. Still, this field looks quality and one or two of these guys could well end up in F1 in the not-too-distant future.
Must be one of the biggest international fields here for a long time?.
Been a lot of pretenders to F1 come here....stand outs you could pick as F1 stars over the years would have been Rosberg and Hulkenberg....can't think of any others who've looked the goods lately?.

I wouldn't classify him as a star, but iirc Daniil Kvyat was here in TRS a few years ago. He has looked pretty quick in the junior categories.

Levels

Another day in paradise
Fine 20 degrees at the moment.
The best field of single seaters I have seen at levels, all so young and hungry, 6 thought they could win the first race on the first corner!!

I think they will be a bit older and wiser today.

You have got to be there for a great days racing.

There is a good link to the action on the Toyota Racing New Zealand Facebook page. One of the cars is currently being fitted out with a new tub.

Great night in the clubrooms paddock with the NZV8's & Formula Ford putting on a great barbecue for about 250 - 300 people that stayed around after the days activities, good to see so many ex Formula Pacific, Formula Ford & media guys of the Pacific era around the place, Magic times.

Any word on what's happened with Young Pedro Piquet? The Interweb seems a little short on Information as only seemed to do Thursday Session at Highlands and now the jet is parked up in Tahiti.

Piquet is gone due to some sort of license issue. I'd say it's probably more to do with underwhelming performance for who was supposed to be the fastest of all of the Piquet sons.

I cant comment about his on track performance but I do know for a fact that his home ACN withdrew the previously advised permission for him to race here.

Of course there are rumour's about irregularities with his license as I am told Brazil does not allow drivers of his age to hold an International license.

new TRS single seater

Has the prototype for the new TRS been made yet ?

I read something about the wish that there would be a completed prototype of the new TRS for 2015 on display for the 2014 race meetings.

I am hearing that there will be an announcement about the new cars at Manfield, which would seem appropiate considering its Toyota New Zealand home base, just up the road in Palmerston North to be precise.

Hopefully it is something in the class of a Formula Atlantic with 300hp on tap.

I'm picking it'll be an updated version or at least very similar to what they're running now to keep the costs as low as possible.

Probably in the short term remembering that there is a new 1.6 litre turbo WRC engine under development

I certainly perfer hungry young up and comers battling wheel to wheel forging careers.
Well for a start most of them have more power than in the 70's and then look at the lap times produced and you have some idea of the reality of how stretched the cars are. Remember that the tyres they run on are probably better than the Goodyear's of that era and make your assessment from that.

But its not a Sunday drive. Some have a lot of prior motorsport experience (not just Smith) and others have learnt a lot in the last five years...
Its still dangerous and there is a lot less protection than in a TRS car or a FF .
