Two more from oop north, both from Huddersfield. Roger Mathews had a yellow/blue example with a BDA I think and Tony Cartwright had a metalic red one with a Pinto.

Ron Clift; and his erstwhile pupil, Barry Lee.
Also Derek Oldham: we finished building his MK1 BDA, around an ex-Boreham shell. I got stuck with making the loom from a standard item as Boreham couldn't/wouldn't supply the part. Glad you've captured my old chum ONT (Oliver Nigel Thatcher), usually known as "Ollie". I went to grammar school with Ollie. |

I'd forgotten that Alan Peer had raced an Escort. Must have been in the last year or so that he was racing.
Alan Peer and Roger Taylor were the main drivers of EART - East Anglia Racing Team - who raced Ford Anglias very successfully during the 60s in club races with the occasional foray into Group 2 events. They were mostly Ford development engineers so had access to the best equipment of the time but were also excellent drivers of the usually 1650cc pushrod then, later, 1820cc Lotus twin cam engined cars. Other drivers with EART were Brian Keen and, possibly, David Wynn-Williams. |

He flew to Hong Kong, en route for Oz as he had a pro drive booked in a small F5000 team. Set down in HK for a rest over, loved it so much, he stayed! Sent a telegram to the team manager in Oz stating he had broken a leg and, regretfully had to pass. Circa 20 years ago, Ollie bumped into my late Mum. She gave him my address and he came round to meet. He was then, would you believe, a full time church minister! Ollie was a partner with Peter Beech and my late very good friend, Alan Daykin, in SRP: Southend Racing Partnership. Prior to his Escort days. They race MG Midgets in Modsports and distance events. Pic of Dave Mathews and my old acquaintance, Jon Mowatt.
http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com...m#.Uc72g9g0_Fw And further, if you search this Google index, there are lots of driver lists for entry lists etc where Jon was competing against against gaggles of Escorts in a lone Cooper 2 1293 c.c. Perhaps even stranger, Jon and I are distantly related, thru my maternal grandmother whose maiden name was would you guess "Mowatt"! A minor Scots clan. ..again a very old thread. Apologies for opening it after such a long time.
Wooding BDA driver line-up included Walter Struckmann and Wolfram Steiner, a Ford-Cologne automotive engineer, built himself an 1100 cc BDA for the 2nd division "Rundstrecken Pokal" (1st div. being the DRM then) |
