Seems like DTM just got a little bit less relevant. |

Make it a Deutsch GT championship with GT3 examples of the R8 LMS, Z4, SLS and 911. Please.

That already happened. Just speculation on my part, but I think that BMW will go for the overall victory at the Ring in 2011 with the Z4 rather than the M3. It would be sorta unnatural if an out-of-championship car won the series' biggest event. |

DTM is about fast cars fighting fiercely in short races. That can be done with GTs (new Italian GT Sprint, old Porsche Supercup), but the point of the T in the championship's name is to sell large volumes of cars, and that's not GT territory. It would be better if DTM drivers raced in the ADAC GT Masters at the same time, therefore promoting not one but two types of cars.

I really don't think they are fooling anyone with DTM cars anymore. GT3 cars actually look more like something you might see on the road (maybe not something the general public will buy, but still), so they might actually be better for fulfilling the promotion aspect.

And the races are neither really short (~100 miles, 170km), nor fierce....

Auto Motor und Sport says that the SLS will make its competition debut in round 8 of VLN, which is on September 25. They will also race in one more VLN round this year, which means either on the 2nd or 4th weekend of October.

Ah, I think Auto Motor und Sport wrote that Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger would drive the car on its first outing.

Call me selfish, but I'd rather see this car in GT2 :/

Why would that be selfish?
I would say it would like to start someplace. Name the last time Benz built a competitive car based on a production car? I think its foolish to believe Audi is going to build a GT2 car. They already have a GT3 car. Has there been demand for a GT2 car? No.... This is not a case of build it they will come, prove you can be successful just below the main class and then maybe current owners will ask to move up. |

Yes that is true. An example of this is Matech, who is now in GT1, 2, and 3, so yeah, there's hope for more Gt2 cars.

That seems to be a crazy high rear wing on that Merc. Do all the GT3s have a high rear wing as part of the rules package?

Well, the Nürburgring 24h is shaping up to be a real classic then: BMW vs. Audi vs. Porsche vs. Mercedes... geez.

Will be interesting to see who drives for Mercedes in the 24hr and how many cars they might run. Looking to be a battle royale next year for sure.

The Nurb 24 hours will be very nice. Hopefully the Merc will be in good shape then to add to the fun.
As for drivers, should we expect the DTM guys to jump over for the races? I know Bernd Schneider is retired but could he be one? Since he bowed out of DTM I haven't heard anything from him so perhaps he decided to really hang up the boots, unless he left DTM to finish this project! |

He didn't leave DTM to finish this project, but he will be one of the drivers at the car's debut at the next VLN round after the summer break.
As for the drivers: Thomas Jäger will be Schneiders partner at that event and while he has some DTM-history, he's probably been signed for this more for his recent GT-racing experience. |

Some more info on the SLS in German, run it through your favourite translator, there are also some pics of the actual racing version you won't need a translator to understand those!
Price-tag: 397.460€... that's however including the VAT... base price is 334.000... so not all that far away from the Audi. Edit: found it in English Last edited by Speed-King; 11 Aug 2010 at 17:56. |

AMG taking orders 334 Euro exc. VAT
Great the car is inline with other GT3 cars available and this is the perfect car for ALMS's GTC and this doesn't really belong with GA's control the racing budgets and competition mantra. |
