The Dakar effort may have some factory backing, as Steve Quandt has several BMW stocks, but it is mainly a privateer effort developed by X-Raid.

BMW just announced the production of a 120d race car for customer racing. Yes, it runs on diesel.

Button certainly got fingered for speeding in France - just can't remember if it was an oil-burner he was driving.

I know Montoya was ban from driving in France for speeding in a BMW X5 a few years ago, maybe that's who you're thinking of?

I'm sure it was JB in a diesel "Bimmer" (and it was an estate). He was doing approx 130mph if I recall correctly.
