Funny how when put into a practical sense, a theory in engineering doesn't work too well....

I was a marshal at the entry to turn 5 and upon arrival on Thursday morning a few of us with a few years experience noted the addition of the Tecpro barriers and how close they were to the actual racing surface as the Tecpro narrowed the exit grass edge of the corner to pretty much nothing.
Then the first session hit the track and we saw how close the cars were getting and it didn't take long for the first hit to happen.
Reassembling the barrier was a new experience for the GP track crew so they learned a lot on the Thursday with 3 hits resulting in Red Flags and repairs being needed.
The Kostecki hit was by far the biggest of the 3 and it physically destroyed one of the Tecpro blocks and also triggered much discussion on site and around 60m of the Tecpro remove to give the cars more width, the FIA signed off on the changes overnight for the F1's to run as it was after the changes from Friday.
In defence of the Tecpro barriers all 3 cars were going to crash and the barrier did its job to cushion the impact.
After the changes were made Friday & Saturday were quiet and we only had Vettell crash and stop in the F1 race on Sunday.
