I don't see the actual laptops being that much of a problem - surely they can run the old software on new laptops in a VM? (we run a version of DOS on a VM for one legacy system for example). Getting the software off the older laptops would be a one-off pain in the arse but after you've done it then you've got it in a usable form for the future.
Again any specific hardware relating to the setup (as per the McLaren example above) surely is beyond the wit of man to resolve either? Again - it's a pain in the arse to do but if were to rebuild it you could make it wireless, use bluetooth or whatever. This is the sort of thing that you throw out to the internet and say "make this work" and someone will come back with a solution. Geeks love a challenge. |

Guy local to me, James French' dad(his name is escaping me) Has a few.... last check he had a McLaren, a Williams, a Ferrari, and a Jordan. The Jordan is I think a 2002 though... the rest are all early 90's. I stumbled across his shop by delivering an unpainted carbon barge board. I worked for FedEx out of high school for a little bit, and saw it come down the sorting line. I saw the piece, saw the shipper and asked the usual route driver if he didn't mind if I delivered that, and a few other things...he didn't have any idea as to what I was holding, and I needed to see what this belonged to.
Needless to say, I was stunned when I opened the shop door and saw what was inside. There may have been an audible gasp followed by a bang when my jaw hit the floor... spent my lunch with him, chatting F1 and getting to put my hands all over some really nice cars....that subsequently launched my career in racing. Sometimes stumbling into something is all you ever need to get a start. Last edited by MoMedic9019; 23 Feb 2017 at 14:29. |

Presumably the technogumbies with lots of time & resources could emulate the effect of the dongle and keep the old software sweet... |

Yep - it's possible - providing you know how the dongle worked you can create a software version of it. As you say it's time and resources.

To software specialists anything more than 5 years old is historic and 10 years prehistoric. We recently had that problem with a web designer and our Mac system.
Bernie has many of the old cars and I wonder if he keeps them in running order? He obviously has the resources to set up a suitably equipped "museum" for future generations to be able to follow what has happened in F1 over the years. Such a facility would be a great legacy from his life and times |

I'm not sure if anyone seen it, but on the Autosport boards there a great thread on the Penske PC23 Indycar and goes into great detail the work that Paul Morgan and his company have done to restore into running condition. Link below:

A few years ago one of Jacques Villeneuve's 1999 split-livery BAR-Honda was in Melbourne, it may have been without the engine.

Bit of a bump after a while.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=897717580 Started a spreadsheet to make it easier to track the cars. Hopefully it's editable by the public so anyone can add a little bit of info. Any help would be massively appreciated. Suspect all the museum cars will make it tough cause they rarely have a chassis number displayed and many will just be show cars too. Thanks in advance! |

Interesting list there, just what is needed. Be interesting if they also included those that didn’t race

A 1996 Forti FG03 was in the hands of a British racing academy for years, but can't remember where or who.

I think you mean The Racing School at the Three Sisters Circuit in Lancashire which is now no more, there was the Forti alongside a Footwork FA14 from 1993 which were used in their F1 driving experiences.

The excellent museum at Loheac (sorry for the missing accent) has more F1 cars from that period than there are cars on the current grid.Whether they are runners or not,I don't know.

Fangio's Museum at Balcarce already has:
1995 McLaren MP4/10 - Mercedes An Arrows (probably 1999 A20) painted like in 2000 or 2001 seasons. Termas de Rio Hondo Autodrome has: 1996 Benetton B196-Renault |

Dan Daly in Ireland has Jordan 192-01. This was a 92 Jordan converted to take the Hart engine for testing before the 193 came out. Dan's has a DFR in the back.
