The Dunlop will be slower, but the chicane will look like a real "S".
I am afraid that the view we had from the Esse to the corner of the Tertre Rouge will change. And the tunnel will be moved. The spectators area will certainly be reduced at Tertre Rouge, because there are many small houses and private garden there.

Hope they won't get too carried away and put lights in the new tunnel.......

Also, I thought the houses and gardens were being demolished, Pascal. Is this not the case?

yes you'll have all the small houses and gardens inside the tertre rouge corner demolished...

... out of a spectator area, they also need room for the building of the bicycle track and the soccer stadium !!

Incidently, the A28 between Rouen and Alencon opened today. I'm in England as I write but the old bat (Mrs FG) has just got from our holiday home south of Le Mans to Rouen in 2 hours!

Mind you, she does drive very fast, and she has the scoob!!!

I see from pictures on the lemans.org website that the old Welcome Building has now been demolished. I felt quite sad looking at the pictures and knowing that I'll never stand on that roof again.

Anyway, I happened upon the pictures by mistake. The question I was trying to find out the answer to is this: I know the new garages are not scheduled to be built before winter 2006/7, but with the old Welcome Building gone, will the pitlane exit be moved towards the Dunlop Chicane this winter or next?

Nice pics!!

Tertre Rouge is a sad sight (site!) now. Has any work started opposite the Bar yet at the beginning of Mulsanne?

Also, the Pitlane exit needs to be moved closer to the Dunlop chicane in order to accommodate the new garages. Are they moving the exit now, or waiting until next winter?

Actually, the little bar of "tertre rouge", located at the beginning of mulsanne straight, is surround by tramway works. The field situate behing plane trees will be the place of tramway maintenance garage.

look at my drawn

in blue -> tramway line
in purple ->Le Mans 24 hours track in 2007
in red -> location of future le mans football stadium
in green -> tramway maintenance garage

About pit lane exit, it will be better and more safe ! the dunlop chicane will be slower now. but there will be a little straight before the chicane. the cars will brake in line and not in a curve. May be it will be easiest to overtaking !

Thanks for the diagram!

You didn't say whether the pitlane exit will be moved closer to the Dunlop chicane this winter or next?

I see from Claude's pictures on DSC that the reconstruction of the tunnel at the main entrance is also well underway. Did you get any pictures of it?

This winter ! the track will be finish in march. but the 7 or 8 new box will be build in 2007 with a new welcome center.
at tertre rouge corner, it's just the spectator area who is actualy in works. the corner will be change for 2007.

for the tunnel works, look at www.lemans.org

I thought Tertre Rouge corner was being reprofiled this winter, so that's news to me.

I'm amazed at just how much work is being undertaken this winter. It looks a complete mess at the moment, and just 12 weeks until the first race meeting in 2006!!

Oh No! When did redoing the Dunlop corner main entrance tunnel happen? That's actually hitting me more in terms of memories than the Welcome Center disappearing.

What a shame. It's always so hard to deal with changes to that circuit. But we adapt and the new configuration will one day be some little boy's memories...

::turning philosophical rant off now::

A lot of work is still going on but the Dunlop chicane is almost finished. A glimpse of that can be seen here, in the official ACO site. A couple of good pictures worth a look.

Looks like the entry to the chicane will be more straight than previous and the chicane itself will be two 90 degree curves, slowing the cars a bit more than before.

Yes indeed. A launch pad for disaster. Witness Kaffer(sp) (Audi) and Hughes (TVR) at Spa in '04.

In the last 40 years it has had 7 changes to the layout. So it's not just the bikers.
