So do we think push to pass will continue to be tolerated without penalties at Oulton or was that a one-off for the last meeting? Is it one of those things that's only defined behind closed doors so we can only guess at it?

I hope not. Biffing a competitor out of the way is not only wrong in the letter of the rules, but also the spirit.
Also: can we call it what it is, which is hitting another car (so "causing a collision")? Push to pass is a boost system used in IndyCar. |

I thought the BTCC term was 'punt to pass'?

The island hairpin has seen plenty of ‘push to pass’ or whatever you want to call it, in the past. Hopefully it won’t be the same this time

It's not black and white. You expect a certain level of contact in Touring Car racing. In fact, it's one of the things that makes it exciting to watch. Take that out and youll get a procession like you generally do in single seater racing. So I hope for some close, assertive moves, just as long as drivers keep cool heads and don't do anything rash

I really do beg to differ, especially having been a competitor in Special Saloons for about 5 years in the late 60s. And having raced pretty well every other weekend during that time, often towards the front of the pack but also nearer the back, my car never even had a scratch in the paintwork. We didn't swap paint, nor did we rub doorhandles and we certainly never tapped the car in front to destabilise our fellow drivers. Possibly because in the main we respected each other, and would always help our fellow competitors if they were in need. Furthermore, you only need to look at some of the photos of club meetings from back then that clearly demonstrate that huge crowds would attend even the smallest club meetings to watch guys and gals racing each other, almost always without any contact whatsoever. |

Have the BMWs been handed a bit of a boost increase this weekend to add a bit of spice to the Championship?

A cracking practice session there. It would be great if that was the grid for tomorrow!

Neate & Butel didn't do any proper laps when the track was at its driest. Hamilton lost time in the final sector on his fastest lap, a half-spin perhaps?

Well, that sucks for Ingram... but a deserved, if unexpected, pole for Proctor! Goff back to where he should be as well (still so disappointed with that livery!)
Chilton 22nd with his teammate 6th, what is happening! Tim insistently calling Cook 'Cookie' is very tedious ? |

Fantastic first pole from Proctor. Also very impressed with Jack Goff and Adam Morgan. Good to see that improvement for Toyota, with Butcher 3rd and Smelt I think in the top 15. Osborne did a good job too, ahead of Jackson. And what a shame for Tom Ingram, but we can expect a great fightback tomorrow!

Also, consecutive first-time pole-sitters (Rowbottom and Proctor) for the first time since Snetterton/Knockhill 2013 (Tordoff and Austin).

I don't think he can help it. The man is obsessed with food, afterall.
A very good, close session. Ingram's going to have his work cut out for him tomorrow. I think he'll be fortunate to score any points in race 1. |

Turkington despite being only 9th is actually ahead of all his title rivals, so will be interesting if he can stay ahead of Sutton and get some more points
