Thanks for the info on the Fitzpatrick cars...and yeah, I guess for me it does degrade into the best paint job as I have no real idea on who ran the cars back in the day...

That's a coincidence - that was my first major sportscar race too - but I was a bit older than you.... Surely the green Jags stand out in your memory too? |

My first was 1986 Brands , that Lancia and the Jagermeister Brun 962C and Wollek in the RLR 956 did it most for me . Loved Brands , wish it was back .

Yes, I consider myself hugely privileged to have witnessed the Group C era, both at Le Mans and elsewhere. Somewhere I have some great pics of 86 and 87 Brands 100kms - goodness only knows where though!

Having spent the early part of my childhood in Africa (where I currently live), I was fortunate enough to attend annually (in the 70's) the 9 hours of Kayalami (South Africa).
I witnessed the great battles between the Ferrari's 512P's and the 917's. The most beautiful 917 that I saw was a Lucky Strike sponsored one driven by David Piper. (not sure of the year but sometime in the early 70's) |

Was in 1971, Piper entry two 917k, and one of them finished 4th (Attwood-Charlton? I don´t remember now) |

I´ve looked for info and was a incredible race (Regazzoni crashed with Adamowicz when they fought for the first place). As I said Piper had two 917K, one for Attwood-Charlton, and another for Adamowicz-Casoni).
Spyderman, you're very lucky too! PS. Aysedasi, Syderman...some of you saw enviable things... I'm too younger |

What I did know was that those Rothmans Porsches were in the race programs my dad brought back from Le Mans, were numbered 1,2 and 3 and seemed to be the fastest cars I'd ever seen. |

Hmm! I would have to say it is probably Penske, when he switched to Porsche + Audi/ Sunoco 917. My father and by default I was a Penske/ Mark Donohue Trans-Am Camaro fan, so it transfered to the Can-Am team. My father with me in tow had met them in the paddock back in the day at Laguna. Also the Livery of the Camaro(colors) was carried forward on the 917 Spyder. But the application of the colors really caught the eye of a kid.http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-09-16-006.jpg http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-06-10-006.jpgBut in fact was truly a McLaren w/Chevy V-8 (preferably about 8.L) fan with either Hobbs or Andretti at the wheel!
