I made it up to VIR for the races Saturday and had a really nice time. The track was as beautiful as I imagined. Very laid back atmosphere wandering around there. There was a bigger crowd than I expected but the area open to spectators is so massive that even a huge crowd wouldn't fill it. I even ran into Mechanic Z out there! They tried to herd everyone into a parking area near the paddock but you were free to drive around wherever and there were quite a few people camping.
I've been to Barber and Road Atlanta and this reminded me of a combination of the two. Despite the big hills and elevation changes on the track, the infield spectator area was pretty easy to get around compared to Road Atlanta where you're constantly going up or down a steep hill. Most of the viewing areas are elevated and set back from the track like Barber with only a few spots to get really close to the track. The on track action provided by the SRO series was on point and it was great seeing them on a proper track compared to St.Pete which is where I usually see them. |

Well, that was a long race trip!
Some seriously good GT races & some fun races from GT4. (Not really sure about the TC America races, had to sacrifice something for paddock time.) Crossed paths with LankyTurtle near the esses, like he said a surprising number of people there, healthy crowds on both Saturday and Sunday! VIR is an interesting track, some really nice spots to shoot photos, others are bit difficult. Oak Tree is a long ways apart from the rest of the spectator areas, which is a new experience, though the Trams kept in manageable. It's a very different track from the others I've been to. Tent camping was a bit challenging, but the track itself is quite beautiful. Hated seeing Lizards having so much bad luck this weekend, but at least their GT3 program got some wins. Overall, a very fun weekend! Last edited by Mechanic Z; 29 Apr 2019 at 21:56. |

Great to hear your travel schedule worked. I hope to get to VIR someday, on tv it always looks fantastic, and cars going around there look great too. Saw a video of yours on youtube, top notch as always. |

Really enjoyed the race weekend. I particularly liked the new 90 minute GT race format. the schedule was packed with 3 full hours of GT3 racing, 3 hours, forty minutes of GT4 races, tons of TC class racing plus all the practice and qualifying sessions. Fans really get their moneys worth! Like Kyle (MechanicZ) said, for those of us who love just walking around the paddock, it's kinda hard to find a gap in the racing, but well worth it. Plus VIR has a really cool pre-grid area were the cars are super accessible to fans just prior to rolling out onto the pitlane.
SRO/World Challenge really put on a great event. I can't wait for the Road America round in September! |

Thanks Joeb! I want to go back there but actually plan it out so I have a couple days to explore the track more. Probably not this year but maybe for the IMSA race next year.

Just watched these races on the SRO YouTube channel.
Wow, what a beautiful place! Just jaw-dropping. Looks like I have yet another American circuit to add to my bucket list... |

The race is going to too tight, and the gallery would be excited.
