As for Jan Heylan I know nothing about. According to his biography on the official site in 2005 he was the Renault Megane Eurocup Champion which isn't much. He took Micky Pastorelli's place at the last minute.
I hate to say it but I think the talent in the field this year isn't as good as last year look at the names on paper compared to last year. There are a few unproved darkhorses however with potential though. |

So Kat is last. PT crashed he has done so a number of times this weekend and in the same places, he winds up 6th. Wilson 2nd, 4 tenths off seb who set the lap record, Junky just set in a time for 3rd just before the red flag....Both Coynes in top 10.
Power is quite something I'll tell you that. Kathrine spun a number of times today, basic things like downshifting too quick and stuff she was 3 second off pole sitter Bourdais which is disapointing for her first race... I'm sure she will improve though. |

I know it's only one session. But Barron is looking really smart right about now, eh?

First corner accident has ruined things somewhat.
That and the fact Bourdais won't slow down! Still, Champcar is back and I'm loving it! |

It was nice to be able to plug the ad-break gaps of NBC (IIRC it was NBC).
Indeed, great shame about the first corner incident. The scary thing is you get the impression Bourdais never really pushed that hard... Still, it is one more motor-racing series cranked into action! |

Simply put, Domínguez made a bonehead move at the start and wiped out most from what could have been a much more exciting race. I just watched the tape of the race (without knowing how it had ended) and one could foresee the whole thing unfolding... I wondered when Domínguez would start to brake and... well, he answered me. Of sorts. I doubt any of those eliminated in the first corner accident (such as Tracy, Allmendinger or Junqueira) would have challenged Bourdais for the win, but that was a shame of a crash anyway.
Great job by Bourdais (head and shoulders above the rest, could have turned much faster laps if needed...), Wilson (did what he could, drove soundly), Tagliani (idem), da Matta (Dale Coyne won the lottery) and Heylen (pleasant surprise). Ranger and Legge didn't disappoint either, whether Pizzonia (who had drive a Champ Car for little more than 100 miles before the race), Power (may Champ Car take him under its wings - he may well be a champion on the making) and Clarke need more seat time. Yeah it was a bit of a waste of 2 hours.... as much as it was entertaining, after the first five minutes and the crash it just wasn't worth watching the whole lot!

What a crap race. 4 top drivers taken out at first corner. One horse race. Btw knowlesy I think the '05 race was much better. Today was pretty poor.
The NBC coverge was terrible. Delayed coverge of champ cars because of the american football. Yet Champ Car pays to be on NBC, they cut the race two laps short. That's not racing or pro! I know its not Champ Car's fault but come on NBC, its what 3 minutes? No pre race show as expected hardly and they cut the feed with no interviews just as Bourdais drives into the victory circle. Atleast Wilson got some solid points and is in with the go straight away. |

I never said we had a good race today, although I still enjoyed watching it for the pure fact I love Champcar.
But the 2005 race wasn't immensely exciting either...in fact, Long Beach is never the best race of the year is it? |

I guess, although I saw the 1999 race today, Montoya's first win I may add and it was quite action packed with good racing. You could say its the layout now but then again that race did have a 'similar' layout.
I don't know what to expect with Houston but its a street night race and should be quite exciting. Monterrey due to its nature will probably be the most exciting and action packed of the early races.... |

The 1999 race wasn't all that action packed in the grand scheme of things though.....
Things will be better for the rest of the season, I'm sure! Especially when Tracy and Junqeira get past turn one and RuSport hit the sweet spot! |

Well its a shame we didn't get to see the pace of AJ, Tracy, Servia and of course Junquiera. I personally thought Wilson was perserving fuel as he couldn't answer Bourdais' pace yet he stopped alot earlier to Bourdais.
But yeah Houston should be a better race. |

on the who is Jan Heylen thing - He won the Formula Ford Festival in 2002 capping a good season in Fords - He went on to Euro F3 -didn't do much and then dominated the Megane cup last year. That is a better series than it sounds it follows the World series by Renault around.
