I reckon a conservative budget from my Clio V6 days:
8 weekends, 16 races 8 tyres/weekend Euro 3000 Insurance/wk Euro 3000 Team costs Euro 3000 Car depreciation Euro 2500 (assuming Euro 60,000 over 3 years/ 24 weekends) Parts/damage Euro 1500 Engine/Gearbox Euro 9000/yr rebuilds = Euro 1125/weekend Which comes to 14,125 per weekend = Euro 113,000 which isnt so far from your estimate. But doesn't allow for any testing/unforseen breakages. And I'm told by a man who should know that the engine/gearbox costs could be far far higher. And the Donington round isn't going to attract more than about 5000 people on previous form... which sadly isn't attractive for sponsors. Please don't get me wrong, I'd love to race in it, and for it to be a huge commercial success but Euro 100,000 will buy a seat in lot of bigger series at the moment and it's going to be a difficult sell to sponsors. Cheers Rick |

Got some more details on this now.
Car is Euro 90k + Tax... entries Euro 10k, but prize money's pretty good. Tyres are 2.5 sets per weekend. No testing outside of the 2 official tests (which is ideal) which both take place at Ricard I think. 2 days each, 1 set of tyres/day. Some great testing available on the Friday of each race weekend. So they've made the package look pretty good... Still going to be a bit expensive and tough to sell to UK sponsors, but the track map of Bilbao looks awesome! And I've spoken t someone who's driven the car and he says it's absolutely fantastic. Super quick and responsive. Cheers Rick |

No details on that officially yet, but I'd imagine they have something lined up...
Assuming the dealers are giving away the tickets again, could be a decent crowd package as well... |

These are some of the meanest looking race cars that I have seen.
Hopefully they will make for top quality racing! Last edited by mac; 1 Feb 2005 at 22:07. |

Yup, I have that file too guys... trying to organise to get down to a Renault test, but still looking a little expensive at the moment to do the series compared to say Le Mans and the LMES in a real GT....
Interested if anyone has any clues what the European teams are charging for this? |

Meganes are being built in Dieppe already, and every team will receive a first car in February. |

Spanish teams: Epsilon-Euskadi will have three cars, drivers could be Alfredo Mostajo, Antonio Aristi and David Izaguirre. Team ElÃ*as will have two cars for Marc Carol and Luis Miguel Reyes. And the last one could be Porfesa (former WS team) with two cars, one for Santi Porteiro Jr. Last edited by E46; 1 Feb 2005 at 23:45. |

200,000 Euros seems like a lot if you consider that you can do Le Mans and 5 rounds of the LMES for Euro150,000 quite easily...
Renaults' target budget was 100,000 Euros, which seems more realistic, but clearly they've had a huge uptake of interest if they've sold 20 cars already... Not heard any interest from British teams at all... shame. |

The Front takes my interest. the Back loses it. Ever since the new Megane has come out, I have hated the back end. Even with the amusing TV ad and tune. Though I must admit it does not look quite as bad on this coupe' as the standard models.

It sounds like this will be a success. I still prefer the look of the Clios. So, is it a European championship? Based on teams from countries?

According www.autosport.nl there are 38 (!) entries.
Dutch team Equipe Verschuur will enter 2 cars for drivers Frans Verschuur and Bernard ten Brinke. Some other drivers in this Megane Cup are Frenchman Jean Christophe Ravier (former Nissan World Series driver), Belgian driver Jan Heylen (former F3000 and German F3 driver) and Frenchman Simon Abadie. |
