Lets be honest here sportscars/prototypes (as opposed to GT cars) have rarely been that good looking, and at times have been downright ugly. And even the ones that some people find pleasing, as many others wont like. Think of some of the great cars - Maserati Tipo 161, Ferrari P3 and P4, all the Matras, Porsche 908/3, Porsche 935, Porsche 936, them Alpine-Renaults - none of them would win a beauty contest when compared to some of the road cars of the day designed specifically to look nice. And that's without mentioning some of the early Group C efforts, which could've turned milk. But they were all spectacular, and fast, and that's what you want from a racing car.

C'mon, these P1's are beautiful, especially the audi, The proportions are just right
In other way, cars people praise for their looks, like the A443/A442, the 936 or the 312PB, for me are some of hideous sports racers ever |

I think the cockpit is a little high, but still good looking cars. Really look like "prototypes"!

Case in point there deggis, as a result of the ten tenths petition of 1993 we finally got rid of those dastardly Group C cars and embraced the Bugatti EB110. That was the reason...right?

Not sure I understood that right... but point was though that the 905 exp, Allard and some other cars started showing some new kind of awkward designs already then and if the classes had not recessed to GT only for many years, we would be quite q bit more used to awkward designs. And through the 2000s until Peugeot (again Peugeot! lets blame them for destroying LMPs!) joined the development was probably pretty stagnated.
