Well, for those of us in the U.S. without ESPN Classic, this looks like a good place to follow it and shut up......

Why did they bother putting that barrier in the pit lane?
All european raceseries manage to pit just fine with open pit boxes. It has narrowed the pit a bit to much by the look of it. |

hmmm apparently teams have been told by race control not to use push to pass , seems very strange to me

There was a software problem where using push to pass for some teams actually activated the pit lane speed limiter so in the interest of fairness they shut it down for all.

As for the race itself:
1) It was like watching regular-sized cars on a go-kart track. The design of the track was cool, but the width of the track was completely unsuitable. 2) The pit lane was ridiculous. 3) Almost no passing after the p to p was shut down. As for the ESPN race coverage: 1) ESPN had so many bars of info scrolling information that when they used the in-car shots you could see no further than the front wheels. 2) Jon Beekhuis is becoming an idiot. For the entire middle portion of the race he went on and on and on about how Junquiera would cycle out in the lead after the last pit stop. Bruno promptly pitted and cycled out into 3rd. 3) The crowd looked pretty good in the grandstands. I hope folks in the Netherlands love a parade. 4) Could someone explain to the announce team how a timed race works before they tell us "this is the last lap" and then have to tell us "that wasn't the last lap, this one is." If CC is paying for this they must be getting a discount. Summary: A street race without the walls. |

I agree with you JohnSSC
That's the 1st time I've watched ESPN coverage and it was sad, there was some passing, but I don't think we saw any of it, not even replays. As an aside, if the software problem affected all cars, shouldn't the race have been re-started? |

It only affected some of the cars (Graham Rahal was one for sure) so Cotman made that call. They probably could not correct the software at the track. If, as the commentators said, this happened before and they haven't solved it then there likely would be no opportunity to do so on a race weekend.
I am not sure there was any passing to show replays of, Red Bulldog, but that is a good point: they rarely showed them when they did happen. IC, you will be able to watch the replay on ESPN2 this Thursday at 1:30 am. That should do wonders for the ratings. I am curious Jimmy, what made this one of the better races for you to watch? |
