Honda's GT report
Honda's targets in 2011 are to improve the turning round performance of HSV.
It is radiator that they paid attention. Radiator was installed in the front overhang in the 2010 model. However, the gross weigh of radiator exceeds 10kg. It is heavy parts. So, they decided it to increasing radiator to two, and installing just behind the front wheel to decrease yaw moment.
However, the car doesn't quicken too much only by making it to side radiator. Yaw moment of HSV(FR) has increased by about 10 odd percent compared with NSX-GT(MR). Yaw moment of 2011 model decreases only by several percent compared with the 2010 model.
There is a disadvantage where the position of center of gravity rises by side radiator. Moment of inertia has increased, too.
These disadvantages were expected beforehand.
However, they thought that they would make the car fast if driver's feeling was improved. It will be proven that their philosophies are correct if the 2011 model succeeds.

Thanks Samurai,
Do you think, we could see also Mercedes SLS and Audi R8 LMS of STX, in the 2011 GT300 ?

Super GT has the test limitation regulation during the season.
Therefore, the S-GT driver will not be admitted to enter the ST-X class.
There is a possibility if it is a driver different from S-GT.
Mercedes SLS's delivery will become 2012.

I hope the top speed was on Honda's priority list on the HSV-010.

It was visibly lacking in this department in it's first season. I think it was down as much as 8kph on the fastest car - the SC430, I think.

Japanese Samurai posted a comparison last year between the 3 cars, it's on the 2010 thread. I'm too lazy right now to check it out.

It will be interesting to compare the HSV to the others this year. I hope JS post it here as soon as he finds some data since we can't count on the official SGT site for any meaningful information

We'll see this year (as Honda changed the car).

But obviouslly, in racing you allways try to improve on any weak points your car may have, am I right?

Honda says aerodynamic disadvantage was already recovered during last season. But side mounted radiator changes an internal air flow. So additional development is required.

What is the typical power output of a GT300?

Teams officially say 300bhp but given laptimes are similar to GT2/3 cars boasting 450-500bhp, and aero improvements can only account for so much, they must be nearer 400bhp.

I think it's because of the weight advantage and superior aerodynamics? I think GT300 run around 1100kg, compared to the weights of GT2 cars that's a good difference.

The engine power of JAF-GT300 vehicle is about 300bhp. But the restrictor size of FIA-GT2/3 vehicles is enlarged than JAF-GT300. Therefore, the engine power of FIA-GT2/3 vehicle reaches 400bhp. It is because remodeling is widely admitted (Inboard suspension, Change of engine position etc) in JAF-GT300, the cornering speed of the vehicle is very fast. So, to make lap time equal, bigger engine power is admitted for the FIA-GT2/3 vehicle. Therefore, Fuji is an advantageous circuit for the FIA-GT2/3 vehicle because of its long straight.

2010 Air Restrictor size table
(350Z(This car doesn't have the inboard suspension.), JAF-GT300)
1,100kg=23.8mm
1,150kg=24.3mm
1,200kg=24.8mm
(F430 & 997GT3RSR, FIA-GT2)
1,100kg=26.0mm
1,150kg=26.5mm
1,200kg=27.0mm
(Vantage GT2, FIA-GT2)
1,100kg=26.3mm
1,150kg=26.8mm
1,200kg=27.4mm

I don't know in detail too much about the mechanic.
However, Kouichi Ogawara (NISMO) was an engineer of Super Aguri F1.
