This isn’t my album but it’s a great collection of pictures from a somewhat forgotten event, the 2004 Super Touring Challenge at Snetterton.
Does anyone remember this event? It’s possibly a tenuous suggestion but it could be regarded as the last time we saw any kind of competitive super tourers take to the track in the UK, since there were several entries from the Norwegian Touring Car Championship which was still using ST cars. I find this an interesting era for ST cars, the ‘wilderness years’ if you like, i.e. between the end of the BTCC ST years and the beginning of ‘historic’ ST races from around 2009. I’m sure there are many of us here who enjoyed seeing the cars being campaigned in club championships or the excellent Formula Saloons series. https://www.flickr.com/photos/coletr...7629104288744/ |

Was this an international event? Several Swedish ST cars.
Also Dutch Vege series. |

Just a BARC event with the Vege series making a guest appearance. Overseas series have raced in the UK on occasion; Portuguese Caterhams and Norwegian Chrysler Neons being examples.

It was a one-off event born from the Formula Saloons series. FS had already been the home to a number of STs but that series folded in 2004 after a poorly supported first round. Entries came from the ex-FSaloon regulars plus a handful of overseas invites.

Yep, Graham Goode and Mike Newman for GGR in 1990. Shortly before Petronas offered Goode big money to run at Johor in Malaysia for 1992-1994. It ended up being developed into something even faster than the Group A spec cars and was eventually banned for it. An ex-Jim Richards R32 couldn't even touch it, although Goode was of a higher level than a lot of the South East Asian competition of the time. It apparently did 0-140mph in 16 seconds.

Biased because it's an Alfa winning and this is what I grew up watching. Outdated car, fairly independent at the time, and taking it to the fully-fledged factory BMWs. Possibly looking at this with rose-tinted glasses but I still think mid-00s S2000 was the 'best' era of TC racing, even if Class 1 and 2 were more bombastic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyCXJaxTv1Y Might also be that I never grew up with it, but Class 2 looked amazing too...BMW vs Alfa, the rivalry of the century. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5gCyrIUJuk |

Also, you can say a lot of things of TC cars... but the sound of their engines is top tier. |

The winner was Rafael Berna (on the blue car) because the sensor was installed on in front of the rear axle, while Silva's car (Red one) was after of the rear axle. After that race, it was ruled that the sensors should be after the rear axle, same as Silva's car. |
