F1 and Nascar are entirely different beasts, man. It's honestly much easier to start a successful Nascar team than a successful F1 team because of how close the cars are to each other.

Exactly. Look at F1 and see the difference in times between the pole car and the car sitting in 22nd. Then look at the qualifying times at any given NASCAR oval race. Some races had drivers within a second, second and a half of the pole time and STILL didn't make the race. Even some of the "pigs" of the series, with the right strategy and the right moves, can easily make Top 5, even as close as a win. So just imagine the similar lap times in a race, lap by lap. You won't lose ground that badly to the guy behind you, but it'll seem like the guy in front of you has been there for an eternity!

And then let's not forget F1's loophole-ridden regulations. While some of the components are mandated (front wings, narrow-track bodies, etc.), look at all the outrageous interpretations of the rules (Mass Dampers pre-banned, Ferrari's "brake vents", customer cars), no wonder the times are so spread out.

With NASCAR, you have a set template and specific regulations on exactly what goes where, with few variables (engine and chassis-wise) to play around with. I doubt Hendrick Motorsports could get away with using the "Walrus" nose.

Maybe not the Walrus nose, but just remember Hendrick's "T-Rex" car.

Which was just used once, in the Winston, and then was made illegal after NASCAR introduced various rules shortly thereafter

I just saw CNN about the likely exclusion of the Toyota cars. How obvious!
I'm dissapointed by the NASCAR association.
Surely, they're not intimidated by a few googs with money and minds to build a competitive car?
The NASCAR boys should just rise to the occasion IMHO.

I was worried when Toyota was joining because I figured they would spend tons of money and dominate. I should have looked at their F1 team I guess because it appears they'll spend tons of money and run mid to back of the pack. Dodge ran much better in their debut in 2001 at Daytona than Toyota did.

I am guessing the whole thing is a bit of a urine extraction. Like the Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division.
