Plus the engineering team from Benetton plus unlimited testing at Fiorano and elsewhere. Even so, it still took Ferrari five years to win the world driver's championship.
Tifosi are expecting miracles from Binotto which is not realistic. It will take time to build a championship calibre team. Firing Binotto would be futile. By all means, Ferrari need to improve race day operations -- pitstops and strategy should be rectified immediately, but improving vehicle performance needs consistent and steady work and no magic silver (fuel flow) bullets. What's the constant factor at competent race teams like Mercedes and Red Bull? A consistent and established engineering team! Not a revolving door. |

This, actually, is not quite true at Mercedes, certainly with some of their senior and junior engineers and support staff including the draughtsmen/women. They are constantly being moved between the team and the main company. This was really how they got the jump start with the latest power units, because they drafted in engineers from their car and truck divisions who had been working on similar projects already. I do not include, necessarily, the most senior of the management team, although I am pretty sure that the more junior members are rotated between the team and other divisions. |

actually the teams are showing all the signs of complying with it so far. teams like mercedes have other projects they can share staff hours with, and there’s limited recruitment and redundancies going on across the big teams.
maybe five years ago it would have been a tough call, but covid and the environment has the turkeys voting for christmas. |
