Seriously, though, the LM600 Evos were some seriously badass cars. I remember the lead car having a great run (against the Vettes?) many a year ago in Daytona, 2001 or 2002, until somewhere around midnight at least, with Cor Euser and Calum Lockie on the strength (during the rainbow paint era). Was really pulling for those guys.

That's right - it was actually running ahead of the factory Corvettes for many hours in 2001 until the bracket holding the power steering pump came apart, and it wasn't the most easily accessible component so the fix took a long while. With better fortune, a Marcos LM600 could have won the race outright!

OK...I'm a little confused.

What is the development history? I'm fairly sure the LM600 as the peak, right? Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wide, low etc.

But what's the heirachy?

LM500 preceded LM600. The 600, however, has had numerous revisions over the past, well, is it a decade now? This reached its apex with the Evo cars, though they themselves were in flux - those were the most badass widebody cars. The latest iteration has been scaled back quite aways. Even way back in 2001, it was the widebody LM600 Evo which was besting the Vettes back at Daytona. Thanks for the info, by the way, geeteeone - it's a long time ago in the context of my short life. I was really pulling for them though, Speedvision showing all 24 hours for the first time that year. Great stuff.

I'll have a go at this. I'm somewhat obsessed with these cars.

1995 - Three narrow track cars constructed by the factory and entered by various teams from then on.

1997 - First narrow track Eurotech-built LM600 run by Marcos Racing International.

1999 - New car constructed by the factory on an original 1995 spare chassis, fitted with sequential gearbox, but still narrow track. Last seen in a couple of Britcar rounds in 2007 (pole at Silverstone, and a near win at Brands!).

1999 - Wide-body LM600 'Evo' built by Eurotech and entered by Marcos Racing International. Other chassis follow.

2004 - New LM600 constructed by Eurotech to GT2 technical regulations, and entered in various national GT series by Cor Euser. Much narrower than the previous 'Evo', but with a similar bodywork style.

2006 - New LM600 constructed by Eurotech for the Belcar series. Similar in appearance to the 'Evo', but with an all-carbon/kevlar chassis unlike the older cars.

2008 - The LM600 currently racing is Euser's GT2 spec car, which has evolved a bit since it first appeared. It now regularly runs in the Dutch Supercar Challenge, as has been mentioned.

So the 1999 is the badass one?

The Evo was, if I recall correctly, rejected by the FIA/SRO thanks to the relocation of the gearbox from the front to the back of the car. Otherwise we'd have seen it in FIA GT much longer.

I think it was the Evo that was campaigned by Cor Euser and Calum Lockie in the British GT Championship in 2000, with the latter winning the title - looked very different from the regular NCK cars (which is now, I believe, Graham Nash Motorsport..?).

For looks I preferred the narrower cars - something didn't quite look right with the wide car, concerning the lights at the front. It's still the most 'monstrous' GT car I've ever seen race. Monstrous is the right word without being negative, because I'd never call it beautiful, but it's an awe-inspiring beast of a machine!

Wish the DSC was coming to the UK this year, I'd love to see the Euser car in action once again!

Nah, the EVO was the best by far!

I remember standing next to the LM600 Evo in the pit lane at Donington during Calum Lockie's championship year, and being amazed how low it was. I'm not the tallest of gents but even on me it only came up to waist height!

Also saw Cor drive it in a Euro GT race, again at Donington supporting the DTM, and there it was running without the air restrictors. Seriously fast on the straight, and that noise...

Yep, the wide-track Evo first built by Eurotech in 1999 is the badass one. I remember seeing the first pictures of it, and being shocked how wide it was compared to the original.

I really miss cars like that. Back then, all you needed to go GT racing, even at international level, was a single road car for homologation. As far as I am aware there was only ever one LM600 road car, which was used to homologate the original LM600, and then modified with updated bodywork and used for the Evo as well. The following pics are all of the same car, despite the different bodywork/colours:

Marcorelly is the name for a Marcos entered by Cor Euser in 2008. The name is
MARco - a crew member
COR - Cor Euserr
ELLY - his wife

Hope it is the LM600! I'm doing the same with that weekend, albeit with FIA GT practice on the Friday too.

Seriously though, speaking to Cor on Friday about his first impressions of Rockingham, his first words were its "difficult" and the infiels is very technical. The car looked and sounded great and it was a privilege to wave the double checkers to him on his victory.
