I bought Formula One 2003, and Damon's right, they've totally messed up the Magny Cours modifications, all they've done is straighten out the zigzag complex before the hairpin. Hungaroring, though, does appear to be accurately modelled with the real-life changes. Aside from that the game feels much better than in 2002, the whole package feels "right" and it's smoother and better presented. No revolution, but it's still excellent.
Especially love the way the new qual is presented, so you can see everyone else doing their laps plus split times etc in just the way you can on telly. |

Does everyone who plays racing sims use a wheel/pedals set, or is it possible to play satisfactorily using the stick and button game pads? I have a PS2.

the twin PS sticks do a fairly good job, I certainle do much better tyhan the wheel which i have for GPL only use now. On PS2 i kept wanting to look through and could never set it up properly for real driving so I went back to the sticks. ofcourse if i could get a chair and mount it to a frame...with hydraulic pistons for 'shock effect' then

I'm old fashioned I guess. I still use the arrow buttons
I have a wheel but its a tad to responsive and the set up is never right. |

I personally use only the left analog stick for steering, and buttons for accelerate and brake, so I can have kind of left foot braking effect, when pressing two buttons in same time.

I use the same wheel for F1 2003 as I use for GPL, it's the Logitech Driving Force that was "designed specifically for GT3" yet is really awful with that game. F1 2003 is the best PS2 utilisation of that wheel that I've tried, it works really well.

My copy of Formula One 2003 arrived today, and I'm impressed. The graphics are improved, but the car handling is a lot better. 2002's cars were a bit "off" (if ya know what I mean) but 2003's cars have better grip. The AI is more racey as well, you can have some good battles with it. All n All, its good stuff

Yeah, 2002 is a game I reckon that'll be regarded a bit as the black sheep of the series, it never felt quite right. 2003 is ace. In every way. Anyone know what score it got in the Official PS2 Mag?

I think F1 '98 is the worst in the series, by far...
I have ordered yet another game: Auto Modellista. Hopefully it will arrive tommorow, should be fun. |

The F1 '97 for PS1. I really played that a lot, full length GPs, always on Saturdays before the real time Grand Prix on Sundays.

Someone else who thinks the Getaway is a big pile of cack - thank god! That is by far the most over hyped game ever. It never came close to living up for it. I lost all respect for OPS2M with their review as it was clear from that, that they score games as Sony tells them to - not good. The camera was awful, the frame rate was awful, the controls were awful and cars handled like transatlantic oil tankers. AAAAARRRRRRRRAHHHH!!
I do however still have my copy because I bought the first release with the BT van still in it, might be worth a bit in a few years time . |

yeah. I sold my (first release) copy ages ago after working out what a pile of shiit it was, utter garbage. It was fun running people down in Hyde Park in a double decker bus for a few hours but after that it's just so mediocre, there's no "wow" factor and the game mechanics are among the worst I've ever seen.
9/10 was a joke, and an unfunny one at that. It's the same this month; they Say the new Tomb Raider is great, everyone else says it's cack... |

I still get the mag though, their news section is the best out there. I get PS2 for that and PSW for a damn good, funny read and good reviews. PSW really is a stunning piece of gaming journalism.

Hmm, I don't buy single-format mags anymore, I got all three consoles so I stick with Edge and GAMEStm. I'm still getting over the death of ARCADE magazine...

I get OPSM2 as well. I think it's a quality mag, and just cause they gave The Getaway 9/10 dont mean Sony told them too, after all there are a few people that really like it. Reviews are just opinion, after all...I like the demo DVD as well, even if they do clutter my room up a bit ( I have about 25 of them, not to mention about 60-odd demo CD's from OPSM1).
Auto Modellista arrived today. After a good few hours playng it, I must say it's really good. The cel-shaded graphics are great, although some tracks look better than others. Customising your car is a lot of fun, you can get a really original looking car out of it. Car handling is good also, not for sim-lovers though. There are a few problems though, the AI sometimes throws a bit of a wobbly and crashes into you and each other...usually it's aright though. The game seems a bit short as well, I got through all the championships today...but to get 100% will take a bit of time, so no major worries. It's a pure arcade racer, so sim peeps probably wont like it but if you're like me, and just like any kind of racing game then you'll love it. Get's a solid 8/10 in my book. |

I was tempted, the only thing that dropped the scores in the mags was that it was really short, so, as it's cheaper now, I nay give it a go.
