1964 Mustang Mk1 homologation # 1329, 1965 Mk2 # 1330, both on 11/07/1964. No idea the difference in homologated spec but probably significant.......... |

Don't the '65 papers identify the "export only" alloy heads?

Hi folks - just joined the forum and find myself in a similar position as Stephen at S.E classics - the original poster of this thread.
I am in posession of a mk.1 BGT that was road registered on 1st Jan 1966. According to this link :- http://www.mgcars.org.uk/MGB/mgbchassis.html there were potentially 5841 GT's built in 1965 - between October and December, though probably not many remaining... Would it follow therefore that any of these would comply as eligible for 'pre 66' events ? Kind regards Chris |

If you get a Heritage certificate for the car it will tell you the day it was made. Presumably if it was made in 65 then it will be OK.
I would suggest you contact Dave Saunders the Comps Director at the MGCC who knows everything about historic MG Bs. |

Welcome to the forum, Chris. My gut feeling is that if BGT was accepted by Pre '66 FIA regs we would see them racing alongside the hard top cars. We don't.
My understanding is that the defining date is when car officially went on sale, not when made. It seems from what we read that this was 1966. It is quite possible dealers registered cars during January, if they had received the necessary paperwork from MG to do so, even if that was pre 'release'. |
