I don't want to hijack this about prices but it's the world we live in now. Everyone views on what makes sumthing value for money is individual to them. So an example from me, the engineering company I work for has seen material prices double this year. A 150mm diameter x 150mm long bronze billet now cost £112 compared to £53 in January. Looking at other sporting events, last season the cheapest home match day for Newcastle was £32, looking ahead to January 2025, the snooker masters is between £54 and £115 depending on what day you go.

For me, the prices for the festival are more than reasonable and I'm looking forward to next weekend

MARSHALS BBQ & RAFFLESIn recognition of the great work that the marshals do for us all, the drivers will be putting on a BBQ for them on Friday evening at which there will be a raffle. If you wish to donate any prizes to the raffle please drop them off to the HSCC team at Race Admin on Thursday 24th August. There are likely to be raffles for marshals on Saturday and Sunday as well so don’t worry if you are not there on Thursday. Please continue to leave any prizes with the HSCC team in Race Admin in either paddock throughout the weekend

PM I got those very prices from the Silverstone website so maybe you have a different one to me lol! There are cheaper tickets but mainly for the concert events in the evenings ONLY, not all day racing tickets.

Don't get me wrong I am presuming this is because the pricing structure is largely aimed at club members and people going for the event all 3 days, this makes sense, reward them as they do with F1 and MotoGP. But not everyone can or wants to do that and the track is effectively hugely inflating the price for those people.

But, if you are attending as a fan for one day the prices are very high, that price is actually dearer I think or comparable to attending the MotoGP race on Sunday, and this is a largely amateur event. I mean come on.

As I say there is clearly method in the madness, and it must work for them, but for single day attendees the pricing is slightly odd.

I see Fri £26, Sat and Sun £42 each day. I don't see £150 for three days. And as said, if you go as a Club member there is a discount.

Those are evening only tickets (entry after 4pm).

https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events...estival/prices

Full day prices are £75 on Friday and £100 for Saturday and Sunday. A three-day weekend ticket is £150

It is quite a lot for the one day tickets! It isn't the Silverstone way, but it would be good if they had a ticket for just the racing and a ticket for racing+music (which you'd need to show to access the concert or something). That way people who were only interested in the racing could have cheaper tickets. Maybe I'm being too stupid!

I guess they can not police both types of tickets, I would have thought it would be easy really, but as I say this kind of pricing policy is clearly designed to either take advantage of the odd person who doesnt know and promote staying over. And as a person who attends routinely as PM does the website clearly stumbled him, so it might do others, another faux pas.

It is a damn shame really as pricing like that really only belongs at Goodwood, nowhere else.

Based on what I've read in the media notes, the garage situation is the same as last year. Out of bounds to non team members unless media, who have to ask permission.

As I suspected.
Last Classic for me then.

from FAQs on site "For your safety, access to the pit garages and pit lane is restricted to working teams and competitors but all doors to the pit garages remain open providing plenty of opportunity to see the cars and talk to the drivers and race preparers."

Oh I don't think that will last long, same as last year the barriers were getting pushed to one side almost instantly. If they do try and enforce it, good luck!

Just had a quick weather look and it might be waterproofs all weekend, typical Silverstone weather

I shall ignore the garage ban as I did last year . "For your safety" my a** . It's a knowledgeable crowd who know how to respect racing cars and to be aware of any risks.

Goodwood manage access all areas, as do nearly all historic meetings, most club meetings and every speed hill climb - even the ones with Type 35s everywhere.

If it is enforced thy can stick the Festival - I've attended for years and enjoyed it hugely , and certainly not only for the track action.

And if they have security people outside garages , will each of the scores of cars which don't have a garage each have a security detail stopping common people like me (now in my 57th year of going to race meetings ) ? We should be told ....

That's disturbing. The beauty of the Classic was always the unfettered access to the cars and people. I'm working this weekend so can't go, please report back!

This issue here is, they are telling you about it probably because it is part of some risk assessment thing, so it might be enforced.

I find that odd as at other meetings like FoS, where there are far bigger crowds it is not an issue, could the fact it is March's land and he waivers that aspect of thigs be a factor? Hillclimbs are not anywhere near as popular, and there have been issues with crowds in the past hence the wheelspining rules that were brought in a few years ago.

Insurance companies cannot take the risk that crowds are knowledgeable, H&S insurance now rules the world, it is why I no longer visit a lot of things I used to like airshows and the like.

I also very much doubt the Sillystone bean counters will employ umpteen security people, they will probably have a few that will enforce it, annoy people and then move on, I can recall years ago at the Classic waiting until the nimby was at the furthest end of the pitwall, going to the other end to watch, then as he wandered back down doing the exact opposite thing. Teams had no issue.

Silverstone's helpful check list is long list of stuff I can't take in - fireworks , dogs , drones and so on . And any rucksack bigger than 20 litres capacity .... Do this bunch of silly control freaks think I'm going to smuggle my chum in , contorted in my bag ?

It is probably to do with the protests etc at the GP I doubt they have a policy for each event it will just cover F1 and every other event, you and I both know they only care about 5 days a year there now in terms of security.

I did see the DJT Redkote RS500 on a trailer on the A43 this morning, probably half a millions quid's worth sitting there on an open trailer, nice to see.

I used to enjoy looking at race cars on trailers as I drove around the country, sadly with the advent of covered trailers my little piece of fun has gone

I do hope there's a light touch to the "keep out" rule. MiniMM and I actually spend more time in the pits than watching the racing which can be less interesting at times. The chance to see so much fabulous machinery close up is the major draw to us. Motor racing has always been about the cars for me, not necessarily the action.
