G Halls should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I Havent bought a new set of tyres this season(far too expensive) but my car runs fine on the very good seconds i get from a local F.F team
I was told the drop off is very small per lap between new and part used tyres

Without wishing to be to nosey Blue (no pun intended). School being the fast one at the end of the straight. I take it you were running a long 3rd gear and not using top?. Dont answer if you want to keep you tactics to yourself.

I concur, I use ex National FF tyres on my FVJ. Bert Ray told me that the difference between a brand new set of tyres and a set 40 laps old was 1/10 of a sec a lap but they would then remain pretty consistent for a few clubman races. OK for me at £10 per tyre but No good for the latest 7 stone hotshot who wants to be world champ.

kartingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I think you will find the difference between new tyres and ones that have done more than about 5 laps to be in the order of 1/2 second actually.

OK but I am just quoting Bert Ray. Nevertheless, at my level there's more to come from the driver than there is from the tyres - the cost of a new set of Zetec tyres would also probably be better spent having some coaching!

Its at least half a second. It depends at what level you drive, the top guys extract the best out of the tyres, and use them to their max, whereas a lesser driver/skilled driver may not have that ability, so doesn;t make as much difference.

It is that.

Maybe it'll stop and we'll get back to clever signatures.

On topic - interesting times lie ahead, but as a spectator 1600 has a lot more entertainment value than Zetec.

Thats because there are more races and more cars racing in 1600 if you lot stopped converting all the zetecs to kents there might be enough to make up a decent grid! lol

How many Zetecs have been converted to historic spec, I mean Kent Spec???!!!! Just joking!! Is it really that many?

There must still be shedloads of Zetec cars around, if only they could be encouraged to come out and play consistently. Low purchase costs, low running costs, limited requirement for engine re-builds, cheap (second hand) tyres, plenty of spares availability must all add up to one of the most cost effective means of entering club motorsport going. It beats me why Mono 1800 and F4 Class E are not falling opver themselves for entries. Perhaps the clubs just have not pushed these classes enough.

How much does a Zetec to Kent conversion cost? The cost probably represents a fair few entrance fees in Mono 1800 or F4 Class E.

whats the point of entering mono to race around with about 4 cars. Convert to kent and race in the most competative club class going.

we usually muster 6+ for f4 and yeah its not enough but we are at least making the effort to get out there its just a shame more dont.
And the small amount of cars doesnt affect the racing i have had some great battles with the other cars especially Barry Pomfrets cars!!

I fully accept that FF1600 is very popular and very competitive, and that 3 or 4 Mono 1800's and 6 F4 Zetecs is not enough but there are many more cars available and could thrive. That's 10, if they would only race together, for a start and there are loads more that even I can think of!! However, don't knock the classes as they stand, they are running as part of multi class races and can be in the thick of good racing wherever they are in the field. (Jez Unsworth and Phil House have often frightened a few supposedly faster cars and probably gained massive satisfaction in doing so). I still believe that Mono 1800 and Class E of F4 could be highly successful, as very cost effective places for a club racer to race, if there was more awareness of their existance and better promotion of the classes by the respective clubs.

You need to use new tyres in testing so you set the car up for new tyres. If you do this then new tyres are worth 0.5 to second at Brands (indy), more on longer circuits.

On another note the place to race your zetec is BRSCC Avon Clubmans championship

The Mono 1800 cars always race with either the Mono 2000 class (grids of up to 30) or the Mono 1600/1200 classes (grids of upto 25) so there are always plenty of people to race with and as tyrrell f1 points out, some of the 1800 class cars are often competitive with a large number of their 2 litre winged brethren.

The Mono club have an aspiration to have 3 grids for Mono 2000, Mono 1600/1800 and Mono 1200 but that requires more people to come out to play in all classes. Does not mean that its not possible, though, and that should provide competitive racing for the driver as well as good racing for the spectator.

On a slightly different note, I asked if I could run an FF1600 in the F4 Invitation class at Cadwell.
This was politely declined due to the significant differences in both cornering and straightline speeds.
Yet an FF1600 corners quicker than a Zetec and I think I'd have a good race with some of the Zetecs judging by their pace recently in testing at Mallory.

A FF1600 doesn't corner quicker than a FF1800

But good FF1600 drivers can be faster than the slower zetec ones. As was proven this year at Donington.

Thats true John (W) a Zetec does corner quicker - but not much mind you.

Yeah its the same with everything, I am sure a quick guy in a Fvee could dice with a backmarker in a FF1600!

Round Oulton FF1600s corner much quicker than the National 1800s for instance at Druids a 1600 exits the corner 5 mph quicker than a 1800 and that is data from one of the current top drivers.

I see what you mean John your best lap in the dry at Oulton could have put you in the middle of the grid in our last race there for the 1600s.
