You had me there! I was pretty sure I hadn't read anything about it anywhere else. You're only supposed to do that on April 1st!

Damn!! have just placed an order for a new one to add to my own set of flags.

mind you, seems such a waste not to use it now, any chance any club using it instead of Red Flags???

Unfortunately, IMHO, it is very difficult to achieve a useful/interesting training session within the arena of the specialist.

(Well, anyway, not since I was last asked to run a session on Pits/Startline )

Could I effectively lose my current grade?

Training days are fantastic, you get to cut up cars, put out oil drum fires (Normally so well they can't light then again for the next group) wave flags, meet the paramedics, free tea and biscuits etc

I think they should have more mid year

Even though I have just given up marshalling at race meetings I still follow what happens in my former hobby. I haven't attended a training day for years (and have never lost my grade) for one simple reason. In the winter I work almost every weekend so attending training days is impossible.

It must be down to an individual how much they put themselves out to get to a training day, but if a significant number don't tend to go that often at present then there will be a need for more places in the years ahead. The need for keeping everyone topped up every 2 years must have an impact on the costs for organising clubs?

What isn't too clear is whether a "Jack of all Trades" would need to attend 5 specifically focused courses (Kart, Rally, Speed, Track & Specialist), or whether less will suffice. Remembering, of course, that they would need 4 of each event every year as well .....

It's a balancing act between keeping up a professional standard (prove to insurance / court that "all marshals are given regular refresher training") and the risk of losing experienced folk who have been on the bank for years that simply can't / won't bother with the new structure.

Personally, I've enjoyed the mix of rookies and experts at my training events - just need to get everybody wearing a 10/10ths username badge as well as real names

You don`t have to do a BARC training day.
you can do it with any MSA registered venue that are doing a training session,
just in case you were unaware

Dave,
Thats another grey area,
As far as i`m aware, the I/C on the post that day should give a signature as they are taking the role of I/O or PC.
regardless of the normal position.

But if people are in doubt, ask the Chief Marshal for a scribble.
