I wrote to Sir Jackie after last years British GP ref the marshals campsite. He snt back a very charming letter. So, if it says Sir J on the letter it does as it says on the tin, as the advert says.

I hate to say this, but after what they did to Brooklands, no part of UK motorsport, aviation or engineering is safe. It's an absolute crime what happened to that place.

to follow on from Truckers comments - he has a point. I raced at the MG meeting at Silverstone last weekend and the number of spectators was very impressive.
I gather that the Castle Combe GT/F3 meeting was packed as well. The answer is therefore either jack up the entry fees to make it profitable for the track/ organiser etc (not so desirable) or get the punters through the turnstiles. It is no good being complacent and saying the Govt has to do something. Have only 1 or 2 Historic Festivals and then intersperse historic races into modern ones. I raced at this years BRDC 75th Anniversary meeting which also had F3 and Seat challenge etc.. again it seemed to work well. There is a trough in motorsports due to the fact there is a recession on and sponsorship is tight, so motorsport has got to work harder on being self sufficient rather than relying on corporate support. I will now get off my soapbox! |

Anyway this is took from the e-mail i recived back from Jackie Stewart (well it says it from him) "The sale of the motorsports circuits currently owned by Octagon – a division of the Interpublic Group, at the moment does not seem to be focussed on redeveloping those circuits as residential or industrial areas. It is my belief that they are being looked at as parties interested in continuing motorsport at those venues" |
