It just seemed a bad lap from Kimi that's all. He probably lost two or three tenths in turn two alone.

Isn't it marvellous that we've got a grid which is leading to all this discussion, rather than a deflated feeling of X driver will win easily!

Great isn't it?
The top ten covered by less than 8 tenths. Pretty rare that is! |

Conditions at the track seem to improve quite a bit when times keep dropping from Gene.
Well done to Renault and Alonso for the pole...BS looks to be struggling just a tiny bit in France, but given it's Michelin's hope track..i would expect Michelin to really give their all. Pity about MS's lap, kinda drop a bit of time towards the end of sector 2, but well done to keep it together to be up in 2nd. Surprising results are Kimi and JPM, i would have expected them to be much stronger with their pre-qual performance, but Mclaren is starting to be back on pace finally. |

Well done to Alonso! It seems that tomorrow's race will actually be worth watching!

DC for a win, I say - I've got shades of France 2000 echoing round my head.

Well done Alonso.
What mystifies me with the Renaults, is the obvious bags of understeer you see in in-car shots, especially Alonso yet they are still fast! I've noticed this for a few races. The turning input is so huge and you can see the fronts scrubbing across the road, but they are on the pace and don't kill their tyres. Amazing. |

It really is unusual. But the characteristic doesn't hinder them in any way. Weird!
Also, despite this understeery characterisitic, they rarely miss their apexes.... |

Maybe understeer doesn't contribute very much tyre wear on a modern F1 car - it could be down to rear-end grip and being able to get a clean exit from a turn.

At the moment the rules state that the compound and structure of the tyre should be the same for the front and the back tyres (never understood that, although it was meant to be on cost grounds). Therefore it perhaps isn't surprising that the wear is generally more an issue on the rear than the fronts.

I read that Fissi qualified the T car. Does that mean a 10 place drop?

I haven't seen that he's been moved back, I guess he took his engine with him...

Fisi will not be penalised - because as Adam says, they kept the same engine.
