No! More's the pity.
Maurice Hamilton is doing the lead commentary role for the rest of this year, and it's likely another Five Live broadcaster will become lead commentator next season, backed by Maurice. Jonathan Legard is now football correspondent. |

Brundle or Jardine are favourites to join 5 live, according to the rumours!

They obviously felt he was lucky to be escaping having to describe races like Hungary and make them sound intersting.

I think that had more to do with what was happening - or not happening - on the track.

Isn't Martin allowed a normal family holiday in his ITV contract? Just a thought...

Well he can take those during weeks when a Gp isn't on.
Thanks to Martins absence, we had to listen to Mark Blundell pile onto the misery that James Allen creates. |

Mark's a great bloke and a mate. Perhaps not best suited to the lead role, granted. James is an ex-colleague, and he grates on me big-time...

You guys are all nuts, James Allen is a good commentator, probably not as good as James Hunt or The Man Muzza, but still a good'en. I love the whole 'GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' at the start of the race.

Martin was on a family holiday.
And no, James Allen is not a "good commentator"! |

I've not been a fan of ITV's coverage since day one - it was made bearable by the fact that Muzza made the move. But then he went and retired.
I'm fed up of the poor coverage of qualy and even lack of live qulay on some GPs You;ve been Framed or qualy? No choice in my book. Hungary was nearly the final straw for me and I ended up not watching 2 thirds of the race - the first race I've missed in nearly 3 years. That was in part due to the lack of action on track but by about lap 10 I couldn't take the inane drivellings of Messrs Allen and Blundell any more. Blundell reminds me of some of the ex players football shows have on - John Barnes talks ****ball anyone? James was OK when he was a member of the pit crew but isn't upto lead commentator quality IMHO. ITV should look to make MB lead commentator and either bring in someone like John Watson or even Tony Jardine to back up MB. Even better rob Alan Jones from Aussie TV! Just my 2 cents... I agree I only usrerly watch the first pitstops before Schumacher gets in lead and cruises to victory when I'am not karting and unfortunately I wasn't the only weekend I have of for a couple of weeks and I whittnis the most boring Grand prix ever and the droning of James and Mark put me to sleep after lap 1.

How do you know it was boring if you were asleep after lap one?

That is a good point kicking back but Luke does also hghlight what is become the perception of the debacle now because many casual motorsport fans will see the start and Shueie take of into the distance for one or two laps then they may as well go to sleep, turn over or get on with something else. This sport is just not deliverig anymore and ITV must be getting very very worried indeed.
