I know that many years ago Virgin Australia had a previous anti-motorsport policy in regard to their airline being a sponsor of individual cars or teams as they felt a Virgin Airline car being involved in a crash would send poor messages to fans about flying Virgin, even if it were subliminally.
I'm not sure whether this view has changed, or if they see sponsoring a series as a different kettle of fish. |

Clearly when virgin sponsored or in fact part-owned an F1 team there was a big shift within the company. It'll be interesting to see today whether the sponsor is virgin and if so what part of the company. |

Yeah, when the Brawn F1 team got Branson's cash, I'm pretty sure it was stipulated to be 'Virgin' and not 'Virgin Air' that would appear on their cars. To me this was splitting hairs at the time.

i dint think about this until i saw the press release. This will allow the championship to still keep a V at the front of its name VASC
Think that is a good move as it evolves to not being exclusive v8s |

Difficulty in attracting sponsors was probably the greatest risk in the TV deal.Although you would have to look at the teams accounts to be sure this deal is a pretty good indication that significant sponsorship is still out there.

Fans To Benefir From Specific V8 Travel Packages
...while teams are said to be getting allocations of air tickets as part of the new deal... Cost reduction for teams, income from sponsorship thru the RECs, fanbase can connect with travel more easily.. Win win win... |

It's a strategically bold decision to appoint naming rights to an in-kind sponsor, will it produce any tangible benefit to the series teams, or just the administrators?

The article did not say what you you just said, no where did it mention in-kind or even imply it

The win for the teams would sit in the in-kind travel (in return for car signage space most likely) and the spread of the sponsor income back to the REC holders.

Reducing expenses is important for any sports administrator, so the deal certainly has merit. However, is the deals true value worth naming rights? |

It all depends on the dimensions of the deal (which are not disclosed at the moment.. I bet nobody thought to ask... again )

As well as providing commentary on why we are .05 seconds better off doing a sector 2 entry to the holding pattern when the others are doing a sector one and updating you on the weather radar every 15 minutes. Your cabin attendant will guide you through a 3d model of the aircraft and I have heard form the ground crew we have yellow markings on the tires so the landing will be shorter due to the increased grip!!
