Wonderful! Wish I'd seen the race - does it get repeated?

It was nice to see the people of other teams waving at him when he drove to his pits. The performance of the new Leon is also promissing for next races and season. The Alfa Romeo's were very disapointing this race. According Mario Theissen WTCC is in talks with 1 or 2 extra manufacturers (Toyota (or Lexus), Mazda?) for next season. |

You are saying Ford is in the series, but before this weekend their participation was a joke. This weekend on their home circuit they did very well. But I am afraid they are at the back of the grid again next race. Quote:
During the DTM race at German TV Klaus Ludwig was very negative about WTCC and Chevrolet. At the DTM race at Nurburgring a journalist asked Norbert Haug if they are interested in the WTCC. Haug said: "We are only doing autosport with real race cars". Today WTCC was for the first time live broadcasted on German TV channel ZDF. After the 1st race the commentator said there were 3 German drivers in top 5, something not every championship could say. It was clear he meant DTM. I got the feeling this was the start of a DTM/German channel ARD vs WTCC/German channel ZDF war. |

I got the impression there were a lott of people in Oschersleben. It surprised me I thought in Germany there was only Schumacher, F1, DTM and 24h of The Ring.

This may not be quite a fair assessment but it seems to me the East German race fans are still more open to "non-F1" racing than the West Germans. For instance, motorcycle racing still has a good fan base in the East. (And the Ring 24 isn't quite as popular with the mainstream fans as the attendance figures make it look, many just come there for the partying.) |
