Gearbox problem for Ralf's Williams..
Lucky 2nd for Montoya though...believe he was lapped while still in 3rd place before Mika's unfortunate departure. Anyway, 6 lucky points for Montoya and Williams. They`ll take whatever they can get |

Montoya CAN beat Ralf. And I wonder how TGF felt standing next to his replacement?
bad luck for Ralf whatever the reason was he fell off (thank you, well timed ad breaks ... ) What a wonderful ending to a potntially boring race! (Not saying I'm glad Mika blew up - I think that was too bad.) |

Finally finishing a race may help him gain momentum. It was a good performance, albeit a lucky podium. The Michelins don't perform well in cool weather and if as rumoured the Williams were not using TCS, then he did a good job. Not so wonderfully exciting as Brazil, but a good effort. Bravo, Juan.

I must admit, nor could I see Williams doing that well here with the state of development THEIR TC was in. But hey, din't really matter did it. A few fortuatous DNFs put JPM on the podium, but even so, he would have been comfortably in the points anyway. What makes it even more impressive is the fact it was all done from 12th (i think) on the grid!

Not that you would have known he was even in the race most of the time. Speedvision (aided and abetted by Spanish TV) contrived to make us believe that nobody but McLarens and Ferraris were actually racing. Other people had pit stops and got lapped, but the rest of them ... eeeeeehhhhhhh.
Or perhaps they were afraid to mention Montoya in case it jinxed him? |

We had some nice coverage of JPM almost touching Trulli's gearbox really close stuff
Not to mention Alonso on the rear of Fisi, he fainted a move at one point really nice to see. |

A solid race and, in the overall context of the season so far, a well deserved second place.

I second that. Not inspiring by any means but a good result for the boy none the less. |

I liked his offhand demeanour on the post-race press conference too. No "Oh boy I'm on the podium" nonsense for this boy! And no hesitation in saying it was Launch Control and not his brilliance that got him that start - although it didn't launch him from twelfth to sixth in two laps!
He gave the impression that being on the podium was no less than he expected and no more than he deserved. That is the mark of a true racer. |

Amen to that Liz, this result will give Montoya the confidence he needs to win races this year.

Yes, un-lapping himself because the only two drivers in the same race had broken cars... he deserved that, it was his right and he expected no less. |

He can, if he has the same package from williams, and for example yesterday he proved driving calmly does work. He never risked too much, he just waited for the oportunities. I think this will give him a lot of self confidence, and williams are more strong now, they just have to work on the TC, may be Juan will win after all.

I'd sure like to see the view from Montoyas car on his first lap, 12th to 6th and from what I hear he didn't make all the places at the start

Yep, but what was he doing in 12th place has absolutely no relevance to the matter. Anyway, he was not supposed to beat Ralf. He was hired to crush him and ..... did I hear “gain self-confidence”?

yeaf red,
i share the same view,if only a little bit milder. good old mr. toya ended up on the podium because of others misfortunes and i dont see anyone denying this. As,far as holding back and waiting for opportunites goes,he is going to get nowhere with that.I fhe achieves anything its because he has shown that he is impatient(like teh move on TGF). Thats going to win him a championship if he wins any. I'm sorry i'm not in the majority, but thats the truth. |

He as in the points early, and gained a podium during the second pit stop. After that, he gained on those following him, which indicated to me that he thoroughly deserved a place on the podium, although 2nd was one place better because of luck. But then, so did TGF gain his win from the same piece of luck.

Actually not about the luck was my post. Altough you must admit that ..lemme think... David + Ralf + Rubens + Mika is a little to lucky, but luck is also a part of the game. I’m against “he deserved the podium place”. He did not.

We may congratulate Mr. Williams. He has excellent driver's staff. Both of them are talented and very promising. Is there any other team we can discuss so long who of its driver's is better? I believe they will fight for WDC with each other in very several seasons. Then we'll see... |
