I think another problem is the shocking 'support' programme - only one other category was racing over the weekend (Indy Lights). For a season finale, and on one of classic road courses in the country, that's pretty poor.
Also, IMO IndyCar is just not popular enough to consistently bring crowds in, outside of the classics (Indy and Long Beach), and the 'event' weekends like Nashville and St Pete - which, funnily enough, have far more actual racing as well as all the off-track attractions. |

I don't know why the race can't be held to coincide with The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance?
The race has its origins with the Pebble Beach Road Races of the 1950s, which ended in 1956 with the death of Ernie McAfee and therefore a purpose built track was constructed at Laguna Seca. Originally the races were held in tandem with The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which was a last-minute addition, intended to add a bit of style and provide an extra attraction to the race. |

I have a feeling the Laguna management and everyone else in the area don't get along. The track was dangerously close to ending up in lawsuit hell a few years back with SCRAMP and the new guys fighting it out over who could do it right and had the money.
