Bar the tradgedies, 1982 was a cracker.
1979 and 1986 were very comeptitive years as well. 1988 and 1989 were superb, Senna and Prost going at it every race. 1997 was a good year as well. Honerable mention to 1981 as well The very best years for Formula 1 were though 1959, 1960, 1966 and 1980 Last edited by racer69; 27 Mar 2003 at 13:03. |

probably 1994. It had tragedy, but also a close title fight, a surprise champion, a winning retun for Nige and some good racing. Just discount Imola.
On balance though, I voted for 1999. |

I love watching videos of races from the 80's particularly the Senna vs Prost vs Piquet vs Mansell, etc years.... awesome stuff!

The "gang of four" from '86. Ahhh, those were the days. $drivers who could realistically win the title all at the same race? Not today, I'm afraid.

What about 1964? Last race battle for the championship between 3 drivers. Surtees "Winner", Graham Hill, and Jim Clark.
The one season however that I always like to take a look at was 1967. I had an interest in the year long before Grand Prix Legends the video game came out. Something about the year.... It was the last year before wings and the introduction of major sponsors appearing on the cars. The first year of the Lotus 49 and the DFV engine, and Hulme winning the championship in the Brabham. What a year..... |

1967 was 15 years before I came around, but I still none the less feel very intrigued from what I have read and seen from that year..... Was there not a more beautiful car then the Eagle?

1997, without any doubt. Equality is cool and the only time a driver won the title because of his high intelligence.

Definately 1997.
Six winners and 15 drivers on the podium. Schuey and Villeneuve never together on the podium! And look at worst grid positions of polemen. Villeneuve and Schuey 9, Frentzen 8, Häkkinen 17, Berger 18 and Alesi 15, if I remember right. |

1976 was the most dramatic year...robotic champion, swashbuckling underdog who was out of a job at the start of the year, robotic champ leads by miles, underdog hero suffers iffy DQs, robotic champ nearly dies, underdog hero eats into gap, robotic champ becomes hero, Monza officials cheat (wow), robotic champ shows his heart and underdog steals it on the last lap of the last race. Turn it into a movie and no-one would believe it.
Of the years listed, 1994 was ultra-dramatic, but 1997 was better because The Cheat showed his true colours |

I'm voting for 1996. Hill winning the title, Villeneuve bursting onto the scene, that pass on Schumacher at Estoril... great stuff! |

1998 for me...Mainly because after Melbourne it looked like being a Mclaren whitewash, but eventually Ferrari got around to putting together a fightback!
So much happened that year.......the Massive pile up in Canada....crazy Belgian race resulting in Jordans first and Hill's last win, Shuey's amazing 3 stop race in Hungary, Hakinnen's amazing tatics at the Nurburgring, and that final tense race, MS stalling on the grid, trying to fight back, but being scuppered by a puncture! 1999 was a good sequal, but like all Sequals, it changed the state of play for the main proponents, as Schuey had to sit out half the season and Ferrari had to center themselves around a new hope! |

97 was a good season with all the politics and what not going on in the background..and a great fight between Michael and Jacques..
I think 2000 was also a great season ... highlights had to be Mika's win in Spa and then Michael's brilliant win at Monza...both races were a treat to watch. |

1998 & 1999 - Mika won back to back titles. 1998 particually was very satisflying and emotional (i have never cried when some1 won the WDC before).
Last year was good too as my dream of having an Aussie in f1 fanally came true |
