I was thinking more of tyre wear being affected by weight rather than influence on fuel usage....?

Cheers - maybe I was confusing it with the recent P1 shenanigans.
This could really put the cats amongst the pigeons if the P2s can stay out for longer they may get all kinds of advantages - especially when FCY/VS/SC/other incidents occur. Curiouser and Curiouser..! |

Within 4 laps we already have a Toyota and a WRT car doing 3:30 laps. Not bad to start a session.
edit: united just did a 3:29. And on the plus side, the fastest cars are listed at the top (unlike test day) |

I know it's only FP1, and test day had things in roughly the right order, etc., but I can't help feeling that when the performance limitations were done, the plan was for rather more than a second or so between Hypercar and P2? I imagine there's increasing nervousness at this point somewhere... Especially if the P2s can find an advantage on stint length and flexibility, they might be in the mix rather more than planned!

Some more about tires for LMP2:
From S365', yesterdays notebook: GoodYear about having only one (hard) compound for LMP2s: “In the initial build-up at the start of the season, we would have loved to have had something softer,” explained Goodyear’s endurance racing program manager, Mike McGregor. “But we’ve still got to work with the ACO on stratification. The driver lineups are so strong in LMP2, there’s every chance that if we put softer tires in, they could out-qualify Hypercars.” |

I don't think that is going to be the case idk if it was at spa or monza where the p2 seem faster then the hypercar for a little bit and people were saying the same thing and by the time we got into quali the gap between the two category increase drastically. I think that the hypercars are still holding back (sandbagging )

The sector by sector times are really so close. P2 fastest in 1 and 3, Hypercar in 2 (which I'm assuming is largely Mulsanne, etc. from memory). But even there, there's not much in it. There's no sector that I can see where the Hypercars are just going to be able to blast past the P2s, as the old P1 hybrids often would (out of corner exits, etc.). That seems to imply that if things get mixed up, they might well stay mixed up, and much difference in strategy could well nullify most of the speed differential. There's no use being "a bit quicker" if you can't pass...
