What about the DBR9 on the track today :ekk:

Stunning, just show the difference between a fast car and a race car. 1:08

Yeah don't do the shopping in it though as it will shake out yer fillings, all horses for courses and it must be much harder to design and build a fast road car from scratch that has to do so many things and run for at least 150,000 miles on one engine than a balls out, no compromise race car.

I would say it was different, not harder. To build a competitive racing car can require innovation and pushing boundaries of performance. It is a much more focussed challenge than building a road car, but I wouldn't say that makes it easier.

The DBR9's time does, however, show the difference between a fast road car and a racing car. It would be good if they could get a few other types of competition cars to run on the track to see how they all compare.

Nice one! I hadn't heard that. I wonder if anyone can get Damon out racing at the Goodwood Revival again?!

What time does the Stig do the track in? He knows the track like the back of his hand and this would be a true comparision between the 'Celeb' and a 'race driver'.
Sorry that should say he/she as we don't know who the stig is!!!!!

The original black helmeted stig was Perry McCarthy, and the new white helmeted stig is Ben Collins.

One of my workmates said the Stig and Damon Hill both had the same watches on, I'm not sure as I never even looked out for it, so couldn't comment either way.

Perhaps though it was just to put us off the scent eh.

If anyone has read Perry McCarthy's biography, they will know that he was the 1st Stig, as it says "By Perry McCarthy - TV's The Stig!" on the cover, and has a whole chapter about his time on TG.

I can't find a link to prove the new one is Collins, but it is.....trust me

Mark Webber was the 'star in a reasonably priced car' today. He lapped the circuit in 1min 47.1 in absolutely soaking conditions! Pretty impressive.

Yeah, he was very good. Very decent of him to give it a shot too
I can see people like DC and JB wanting to have a go now though

"Aw, Damon was hardly trying!"

Yeah I want to see DC and JB have a go! They should also get a few more ex-f1 drivers in like Herbert, Irvine, Brundle atc. It would also be pretty good to see Schumacher (michael) on it!

I would not be suprised if we had more F1 drivers on, the audience for Top Gear is bigger than that of F1 in the Uk, and they can sit there with all the sponsor logos on. Attractive proposition for the teams.

Blimey I didn't know more people watched Top Gear than F1! Well I suppose it is quite a lot more interesting at most times.

Webber came across very well too. I doubt that Kimi's bone-dry sense of humour would translate 100%.

Johnny would be fantastic, I'm not sure MS, Martin or Eddie would give it a go though.

Who else...

I bet Red Bull would like to see Klien or Liuzzi or both do it.

I can imagine Mika Hakkinen as well...

Not just that, the World! Apparently its one of the most popular programmes! (I don't have a link to support that but I have heard this said many times)

Collins does have a fairly prominent link to the TG site on his website, if that could be considered a hint...

Although, tbh, it's one of those things I preferred not knowing...

IIRC, when TG first started, they said the Stig, presumably perry McCarthy back then did the lap in 1:46 (no decimals back then)
