John Marshall is rallying a MKII Escort this season. I read recently that he had been at an event in Anglesey and saw that he was entered for
The Manx.

A bit offensive that! I speak as a Scot. Please note the Saltire! I have done a lot of my motorsport in Scotland, in speed events and racing. I think I still hold four classic class records at various venues.

As for what I said, it's purely fact. I would love to do some KH classic events if driving standards were improved and the cars were genuine historic spec!

The first part of your post has been addressed I believe, as to the latter, who cares? The series appears to attract good grids so it must be doing something right.

I speak as someone with cars built to App J Gp 1 and App K.

Thankyou - SMRC classics isn't trying to be HSCC, there are probably not enough cars up here to fill a grid let alone have enough in each class!
There are plenty of one-make championships around to excite (or bore) spectators.
SMRC classics provides a great variety of cars for spectators to see and some close racing in and between classes. Sure it has issues within the regs - a large bank balance can produce a massively quick car, The Marshall's Escorts being a case in point, but if you are prepared to invest (and race at virtually one circuit all season) then surely you deserve success. It also provides opportunities for newcomers like myself, with a decent (non grp 1) set of carbs and a bit of work then a lot cars can be in the mix. No-one wants to be at the back of the race or class all the time knowing that their car is 'period'.
For those that can't afford an original race classic, or fund tours of the UK and and European circuits, SMRC classics is a great place. The expanding grids, variey of cars and the fact we have now been invited to support TWO BTCC rounds this season is testament to its popularity with drivers and spectators alike.

PS DM - I am an englishman in scotland enjoying SMRC classics so dont assume my comments are nationalistic and I'll not assume MGCC regs include the requirement for a beard

Nineteen cars qualified for the Scottish Classics visit to Oulton Park on 2nd June, in wet conditions which some drivers found
rather difficult. A twentieth, the Porsche 911 of Raymond Boyd, was able to start race one from the back of the grid, following
alternator problems prior to qualifying. More entrants were expected, however, mechanical failures during Friday testing reduced
numbers.

Regular winner, Andy Smith, had little difficulty winning both races in his Morgan +8.
Invitation class entrant, David Holroyd, Lotus Elan 26R, came second in race one and fourth in race two.
Robert Marshall, Ford Escort came home with two third places, especially enjoying a very close battle with Holroyd in race one.
Boyd climbed to fourth in race one and finished two seconds behind Smith in the second outing, just ahead of Marshall.

Further down the order, Nic Boyes, Mini Cooper, and Keiron Baillie, Ford Escort, fought very hard over seventh place in race one.
Boyes had a similarly intense race two, on this occasion with Robin Benn, Ford Capri.

The next two rounds are at Croft on 23rd and 24th June, part of the BTCC weekend.

Wish I was there!
Engine only came off the dyno on Thursday morning, all day to get it in the found the water pump was knackered and it still wasn't running right.

Can't afford another blowup and a bit of a trek for testing!

Watching from the sofa - keep an eye out for last years Class A winner Rodger Motherwell in #68 orange Alfasud Sprint. A lot of work done over the winter.

Oulton was a test and Rodger took 3 seconds off his quali time to finish 2nd/3rd in class in yesterday's race. (Not sure if the caterham is points scoring).

A couple of tweaks this morning, target is to beat Nic Boyes' green mini.

Good also to see that the driver that caused havoc at the first round of the year ( points on his licence ) has lost none of his ability. How many times did he spin?

Mike, I fully agree, excellent commentary from Richard John Neil. He hosted the Scottish Classics race from Knockhill during last September's ITV4 BTCC programme and I imagine will do the same this August. Similarly high standard from co-commentator Vic Covey - a tireless worker in Scottish motorsport for many years.

Very unfortunate last lap spin for Mark Campbell - he had looked fairly comfortable until then. I was sure he was going to repeat the win which he took the last time he appeared in this championship, in 2010.

The ITVPlayer is still showing highlights from last BTCC round at Oulton, so guess Croft won't feature until that has ended its run. I assume they don't show all the support races as it is only 'highlights'?

Croft

Twenty-five entrants encountered conditions from monsoon to dry and sunny during their visit to the Croft BTCC event on 23/24 June.
Race one saw a considerable number of retirements – sixteen finishers, headed by Andy Smith’s Morgan +8. Invitation Class entrants
Mark Campbell, Triumph TR5 and Russell Paterson, Morgan +8 were second and third. The same cars made-up the top three in race
two, on that occasion Paterson led Smith, with the unlucky Campbell third, having spun whilst leading on the final lap.
Several of the retirees from race one were able to repair their cars – a total of twenty completing the second outing of the weekend.
Joint championship leaders, Robert Marshall and Nic Boyes, both won their class in each race.

The next two rounds are at Kirkistown on 21st July.

Kirkistown

Andy Smith (Morgan +8) maintained his excellent form, winning both rounds. On each occasion he was followed by
Robert Marshall (Ford Escort). Porsche 911s took third – Stan Bernard in the first race and Raymond Boyd in the second.

Class B cars of Kieron Baillie (Ford Escort) and Tim Reid (Marcos) performed well – Baillie managing to head Reid by less than a second
at the end of each race.
The Mini Cooper of Nic Boyes was top Class A car – he maintains his close battle at the head of the championship with Smith and Marshall.

Knockhill is the venue for the next two races, on August 12th.

Exciting competition throughout the eighteen car field provided great entertainment
for the crowd at Knockhill on 12th August. Robert Marshall and Shonny Paterson put up a strong challenge – however,
regular victor, Andy Smith, triumphed on both occasions. Paterson had fastest lap in both races – both he and Marshall must
think that they could have a race win in the near future.

The Class B battle between Kieron Baillie and Tim Reid resumed, joined by Bruce Weir’s Lotus Sunbeam.
Two seconds separated these drivers at the end of race two.

Class A had two first time winners in 2012, in race one Ian Blacklin (Ford Fiesta) and George Leitch, also in a Fiesta, in race two.
Regular Class A leader, Nic Boyes, finished further back, hindered by clutch problems.
The return of Fiesta61, mentioned earlier in this thread, was hampered by electrical gremlins.

Marshall and Smith jointly lead the championship, with Boyes third.

A full grid of thirty-two cars is expected at Knockhill on 25th and 26th August when Scottish Classics support the BTCC.
