driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Enderbys Ghia was black body on S2000 chassis ( i cant recall what BUT if you trawl through autosports of 1982-4 you willfind teh article on tehcars announcement) first running with Imp engine and later 1300 BDH power
He raced the car in Wendy Wools special saloon championship and Brands hatch winter warmer events
I dont think he contested the Donington GT championship but may have done the odd round
He sat on the right side of the car as SS rules dictated you had to be over the centre line of the car
There where 3 or 4 S2000 based cars in special saloon/GT races from memory
Skoda x 2 poss 3 ( i bought skoda Tiga sc80 based skoda 3 years ago horrible body fitted! )
Lotus europa ( built by racing fabs for paul berman never raced sold to Ian ?? had 1500 BDA fitted

Dan Rear should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Ian Marshall perhaps of MacInnes Amcron Racing? Eric Paterson also had a Europa, Drifty.

Thanks for the info.
I bought the car from Mike Ingles, a historic car racer for 20 years, currently races a Chevron sports racer and a few other cars.
He said the car came to him with a Karman ghia plastic body which was well shot. He bought the car in 2005.
The car ran a '5000 bhp' BDT and has March F2 rear end base, front is custom set-up with huge brakes.

It raced in Silhouette Special Saloons.

Now you know as much as I do.
I'm trying to trace the history to try to find the Lola Chassis number which I think is in single figures.

ok i dont know the guy , the name rings no bells with me .Any one know of him ?
The only Ghia as has been stated is Doc Enderby's, 5000 bhp ? seems excessive even for a Supersaloon to me ,and a silhouette surely some one would have remembered .
Can anyone enlighten me as what a BDT is .?

I well remember Enderby's K-G in the Wendy Wools, specifically because my very first car was a maroon K-G......

I'm seeing him this friday, will ask a few more questions.
The 5000 was a typo!
Hopefully I can get a clearer picture for the history and see if there are any pics, but i doubt that.

Doesn't happen often (!!), but I agree with Drifty here.

There was only ever 1Karmann Ghia Spec Saloon/GT car running in Britain, the Enderby one. It had a 1300cc engine originally, so couldn't have been giving anywhere near 500hp, even I know that! I'm sure it was based around Tiga SC79 S2000 car, so I'm not sure about the F2 March bits either. The BDT motor was also used extensively by the Roy Baker Group C2 Tigas, in the mid 80s.

The chassis no would commence "HU" I'd have thought, were the 490s and 492s numbered in 1 sequence does anyone know?? OTOH there were about
10 T490s made in 1977, all later ones were 492s, made in 1978 and 79.

Just had an email from someone who was about at the time of the Wendy Wool Champs.
He believes the chassis was a Lola with the 1300 and the only Karmann Ghia was David Enderby's.

You are right about the T 490 being made in 77 and about 10 off.

My effort now is to find David! That could be tricky, but i have one route to follow.

Graham.

Found this on an old 'the imp club' forum page:-

Maybe I can shed some light on some of the cars built by John Maguire....
I raced the ex-David Enderby Chamois coupe, with a five-speed Knight tranny and engines built by Ray Payne, in 1982-1984, running in Scandinavia. I bought the car directly from David after the final Wendy Wools round, when he had gotten started on converting a Tiga S2000 to run with an Imp engine and be clothed in VW Karmann Ghia bodywork. My car was then sold to Harry Simpson in Scotland who did very well in hill-climbs, until the car's demise was recorded in Motoring News. I do not know whether Simpson re-built the car, or scrapped it. Incidentally, I also bought Enderby's first Maguire Imp (the saloon shape bodywork) that was
badly damaged at Thruxton in 1980, hitting a marshal's post tail first. This car was sold on to a Norwegian gentleman who scrapped it it the Nineties. Another Maguire Stiletto was built for Mats Warg of Falun in Sweden, the gent who originally purchased the ex-Ivor Goodwin/Slim Borgudd/Chrysler Sweden Imp that I have still got, and which is being re-built at the moment into a Ray Payne/Hartwell lookalike. Mats' Maguire car was sold on to Finland, I do not know if it still exists. Finally, the Barry Reece Maguire Stiletto was totalled at Castle Combe in 1983, causing Barry severe injuries from which he sadly never recovered fully.
I hope this fills in some of the gaps in the history of the Maguire cars. My own favourite race in one of those cars was at Kinnekulle in Sweden in 1982, when I was in a GT race and managed to beat two Porsche 935s in the race...it was very wet and the Porsches could not put their power down. The ex-Enderby car was magnificent.

David sold the "Chamois Coupe" to me and went on to build the Tiga S2000-based Karmann Ghia VW clone that had Imp power until David eventually went for a 1300BDH engine to contest the bigger class.

I was David Enderby's mechanic during the heyday of national Special Saloon, we built and ran 3 Imp variants before building a monocoque VW Karmann Ghia.

Seems overwhelming that the Enderby Ghia is not based on my or any other Lola T 490/492!
Maybe I'll learn more this friday.

Very interesting stuff though.
If you google Doc Enderby you get a little of his medical history.

What disappointed me was that I couldn't find a single photo of David's K-G. As a BARC member with a particular (spectator only) interest in special saloons (and the K-G, of course), I watched the Wendy Wools series races loads of times. I'm certain I have photos somewhere, trouble is I have a huge suitcase full of photos - probably 3-4000, which I'd need to sort through to find them........ one day.....

Found a 'line' to Dr Enderby, so I hope I can get some facts. He races a Radical from 2005, exactly when my Lola's previous owner bought it...

Get sorting that suitcase out!

You could be right!

All I'm trying to do is find the chassis number of this T 490 Lola Sports Racer which is not that important as the car will be a hillclimb Sports Libre car when done where anything goes.

The tub and frames are right, just all the suspension that is non-standard.

Thanks for the help, Graham.
