Does anybody want to have a go at rFactor online tonight, any suggestions for tracks or just see what's available?

Is Adelaide '89 available from rfc? I've been looking for the original layout.

No, virtualr.net has a dowload for Adelaide '88, which i couldnt get to work either, but it has a link to Adelaide '89 which works just fine, in two versions, wet or dry! (You also have to join some other forum to get the Adelaide'89 download).

Cheers David, i'll give it a go.
Are you going to be online tonight, i should be on a little later on. I think its starting to sink in with alot of players how much more driveable and fun the smaller class cars are, particularly with online racing. Most of the races i've been on lately have featured M3's, Corolla's and Mercs, with just the odd Sierra doing the 'straightline only' business |

What online game do you folks join?
I got hold of rfactor and picked up a second-hand joypad (haven't got the cash or space for pedals), and have been loving TCL and the BTCC '07 mods. I've not gamed online before, so am not sure of etiquette or protocol, or even how the system works! |

IMO, the M3 is the only car that's capable of being outright competitive and easy to drive. I too have noticed that it is the most popular car online and I'm surprised to see how popular the Corolla is online. I've only seen one Sierra online. |

I've been really impressed with the friendliness and sportsmanship of the online racers. If you accidentally hit someone, it's an unwritten rule that you use the chat facility to apologise and you stop and wait for them to get going again, you don't gain a position out of punting someone. |

Thanks. I've had a couple of online goes, but no-one else seems to be around at the same time as me.
I'm now fiddling around creating accurate championships, so I don't have to race an '84 Escort against hordes of Bathurst Sierras! Also, if anyone knows how to modify the .rfm file to get class points, and could fill me in, that'd be fantastic. There's only so much fun I can have being blown away by RS500s and getting no points when I've beaten everyone in class. |

don't do that otherwise you'll not be able to play online with it. You'll have to copy it and create one for offline only use, but there is a whole load of stuff that'll need changing on it. I'll try and find the guide to rfm's later today, if it still exists...

Cheers, I'd sure appreciate a guide to what can be done in the .rfm. I'm aware that all the online files need to match up - I'm working with copies of the files, linked to the TCL gamedata.
I tried a few things, but couldn't get anything to work. I've now set-up championships for similar cars, on period circuits, editing the seasons and adding additional categories that each car is classified in (this doesn't seem to affect online play). It's not historically accurate, but it's a more competitive race when it's just Corollas vs RS1600s. I saw 4 Sierras in one race (of 6) online last night. |

Any tips when it comes to setting up the cars?
Also i downloaded a setup from RFC, how do i get it into the game? And a headsup, when looking for an online race with TCL try the Race@RFC server, plenty of cars racing (never seen less than 15 or so) and always someone to race with in the races |

To get a set up into the game , simply download the file from where ever such as rfcentral.
it will be a .svm file. (you can rename it whatever you like but remember it has to stay as a.svm extension) Go to your R Factor folder , User data , your name you want to use when driving , settings and then find the track you want to use the set up on and simply cut and paste from your desktop to that folder. The set up should then be easilly accessible when you are in game. Hope that helps |

I've been using the race@rfc server, and was starting to make progress (especially once I noticed I was racing on medium tyres) but then my joypad settings seemed to change, and now I can barely control the car.
I don't have the space (or can justify the money) to buy a wheel, so am sticking with the gamepad. Anyone have a gamepad set-up they could share? My main problem is that all of a sudden it's become hard to make small adjustments on straights without getting into a tank-slapper, and ditto in the corners. So bad that I've dropped from 1:01s at Wanneroo down to 1:09s! I've played around a bit, but have to be honest - I don't really know what adjusting "deadzone" or the sensitivities is supposed to do. |

rFactor\UserData\Hepatic@[GP]\Settings\Adelaide Obviously you'll need to pick your profile directory not mine and the track folder its meant for. EDIT: oops, only read to bottom of page 1 and didn't see the earlier reply Last edited by Hepatic; 5 May 2009 at 21:56. Reason: forgot to read page 2! |

|----------------|----------------| The vertical bars are full left / centre / full right. Deadzone is the bit in the middle that determines how far you must move the stick before the game picks up on it and starts to move the steering in game. Its usually shown as a percentage of full travel from left to right. |------------|------|-------------| Thats a fairly large deadzone, meaning you need to move from centre to the 1st vertical before the game will recognise the fact you are asking it to steer. Its most helpful when you have a stick / wheel that doesn't always return to dead centre and helps to avoid drift on straights. Sensitivities are probably described best as a percentage of full travel required to perform full lock in game. A higher sensitivity will mean that less reallife stick / wheel movement is required to go to full lock in game. On a pad especially, because the reallife movement is quite small the sensitivity will be crucial in being able to obtain a fine degree of control in game, and i think this is where you are having issues. If you are finding that even small pad input is making you "dart" across the track and are unable to have fine control over where the car goes, i'd suggest changing the sensitivity and reducing it. Its always a personal taste as to how you prefer it (GT4 i have a high sesitivity, especially on the rally tracks, but in rfactor i prefer it quite low) but that sounds like the kind of issue you have right now. Hope that helps! |

Not had chance to look at it in detail myself but a friend has and said the way the rfm and classes have been setup make it impossible to do this. Its not just the rfm that needs editing but all the cars too. The problem is the naming of the classes, to do the kind of thing you are looking for the entire way the classes are setup needs to be rewritten. The classes are setup in a way in which many car makes are lumped into one heading. Its those headings that are selected from the rfm as available, and thats why you'll have trouble picking just escorts or corollas. I can understand why its been done the way it has, it just makes single / dual make championships impossible. |

Thanks, Hepatic. I'll fiddle with the controls tonight if I get a chance. I got a reasonable setting last night (finally), but reckon I can fine-tune it now I have your guidance.
I have already edited my rfm files, and each individual car file. Then I can create a championship (again in the rfm) and have only the types of car I want to race against eligible. Unfortunately I can't find anywhere that gives a clue over whether I could have two cars scoring maxium points in the same race, like it was back in the day (class system) I'm hoping that the Mk2 Astras will turn up, along with the Golfs. |

Too much of a pain for me sadly, seems this mod doesnt work too well on my mcahine
Besides, had a quic go on the basepack and was so far off the pace on the RFC thing that I deleted it to save me getting too annoyed I forgot how many utter geeks play the championships on that stupid game, i hate being utter rubbish at games!! |
