What's wrong with the Formula Saloons? There's an always-dying Commodore in it?
At the Brands Hatch meeting Craig, Vader and myself went to there were quite a few Super Tourers on the grid. If I remember: two Mondeos, three Primeras, Vectra and Accord. The major disappointment is that there was only one Sierra... |

It was indeed. It's a shame that motorsport in general has become such an expensive operation in the past decade or so. We expect it in F1 paddocks around the world, but perhaps Super Touring went too far in that direction.
I can imagine it, though. Mind you, the last rounds of the ESTC featured quite a lot of manufacturers and the STCC has all sorts of cars competing; probably the most of any series at any time throughout the past five or six years... |

STCC yes, that is the only series that I know has officially comfirmed that they will use Super Touring rules next year. The grid could be very big with so many STs avalible! I don't know if any manufacturers will compete, but Volvos driver, Janne Flash Nilsson has said he hopes to bring Volvo to the track next year aswell, but I don't know. The newest ST Volvo is from 1999... But can Audi win with a 1996 car, why cant Volvo?

They just need Jim and Rickard. The only time anyone would see the front of the S40 in their mirrors would be when they're being lapped!
Do we have an unofficial 2001 entry list for the STCC? Or, what was the final car count for the season of 2000? Volvo, Audi, Nissan, Ford, Chrysler... Snap out of it! |

No, still no 2001 entry list... Don't know at all what makes and drivers that will drive there, yet...
This year was very nice endeed, the makes were Audi, Volvo, Honda, Ford, AlfaRomeo, Chrysler, Nissan, BMW, Opel... I think I've got them all. I don't think we'll get that many manufacturers next year, but you'll never know |

Though the STCC was largely a privateer or semi-Works series at best, I think it best demonstrated the best of what Supertouring was and is all about--lots of manufacturers and close racing. I counted like 8 different automakers? Wow!!!

Just to update this.
The Euro STC will continue as an FIA SuperTouring next year, with new regs to be introduced in 2002. There will also be a second championship for SuperProduction cars. The 2 championships will run on the same bill (with FIA GT's) but as seperate series rather than a single race for both classes. All of this of course subject to final FIA approval on Dec 4th. |

At this stage, you'd have to say Super Touring, as the cars are already there, ready for the series, if a little tired.
No matter what the case, it's gonna be one helluva bill next season: FIA GTs and the ETCC as the headline events. BTW, do we know what the STCC organisers will be doing about 2001? |

This will definitely be a don't miss calendar in 2001, me thinks. Silverstone's biggest event of next year, without a doubt!! Yes, they still have the GP, don't they?
