Rick, what about sticking with Renault, but in Class B. The Clio fits the SuperProduction regs. Failing that there's always the Megane. Definately ok for Class B and might just scrape in for class A.

Sadly the Clio is too short for class A but I will be interested to see how the Dutch Class B Clio, built by WSR goes against the NSCC this weekend in Spa...
The Megane apparently is due to be updated at the end of next year so no Renault inclination to get out there in a car that they don't sell many of in the UK and are about to replace I think...

Odd suggestion I know. I think they're working on some form of rally lark too, but is something like a Citroen Xsara any good to you??

Don't think Peugeot would allow Citroen to compete against them...

What about a Golf GTi? Don't forget one won the (multi class) BTCC many moons ago (John Morris? circa 1980?)... pl shows his age again!

Anyone any thoughts on this? (gti, not my age!)

One thing I did notice from the VW web site is the relatively low 150 BHP figure.

VW have been promoting a diesel Golf in rallying - though I doubt a diesel is within the BTCC regs.

Didn't they use a diesel golf in the Spa 24 hours recently?
Might be a bit short for TOCA but they haven't got any conflicting motorsport activities...

Same company, differeny aspect (You'll get the hero vote!)

How about a Seat Bolero or Skoda Fabio?

Do they have any engines suitable?
I reckon they'd bend over backwards to help, too...

Have considered the SEAT option, not sure about suitable engines though, Skoda would be great for crowd popularity but think they are committed to being the Rallying arm of the VW group...

Give me some credit, I am hoping to hang on to my credibility through all this...
Actually not a bad suggestion in all seriousness but there is already a Proton being pedalled by "Kermit" in the NSC and Hyundai seem to have the rally bug.
Cheers for the input

Is there some reason you don't like green cars, Rick?

Don't forget also that Hyandai has already been involved (if you'd call it that) in Super Touring in Oz. I seem to remember that they weren't that great then and that was as an exercise to see whether or not the factory wanted to get majorly involved in the sport. They haven't yet...

Bring Back the Cavaliers has the best suggestion, I reckon.

The Chrysler Neon.

Think on these stats for a moment.
4325mm
2.0 litre engine is the only one they offer
131bhp even in stock ROAD trim
The Danes have had a national one-make series for them since '98, so the hot bits should have some good development behind them.

Downside?
Well, it's a bit wider than the European norm, so there will be a slight corresponding weight disadvantage

Oh, and it looks like a startled goldfish from certain angles.

But apart from that, I reckon it's a winner.

Might even get some Mercedes backing, now that they are officially Daimler-Chrysler, and there is no question of the A or C class being eligible.

Startled Goldfish! That's soo funny!!

Tim, you are a wag!

Ahem. Good suggestion though.

Rick. After a little investigation, it seems there are no suitable 2-litre engines in the seat or Skoda ranges.

(Unless you're racing an Octavia...)

Hey...!?

Yeah - and practice in the Donington Course Car to guage performance!!

Dunno about this one (thought about it walking to the train station) but what's Fiat doing, other than owning Ferrari?

And Alfa Romeo... and I think there's one or two of them already...

In any case, am I right in saying that they are now hooked up with Chrysler ? Or have I totally lost it ?

Like the Neon idea... bit against my religion to drive an American car but it sounds quite promising...

Hang on...

I had no idea there was a Neon Coupe!

That'd be pretty cool!

The thing is, is it long enough? Does it have a 2.0DOHC engine in it's line-up? We need answers to these questions!

Unfortunately, Sparky, I think that one's USA only. Am I right in thinking that the bodyshell has to be based on a catalogued British model?

Incidentally, I Yahoo'd for Chrysler Neons when I was looking for the dimensions - there's a real subculture breaking out about them in their homeland. I'd no idea.

Rick, just a friendly reminder: I'll banish you from my Forum if you continue to talk about Pokemon. I've had enough of those little *******s!!

Sparky, to answer your question: yes. The Neon does indeed have a two-litre engine in its lineup. I don't know whether it does in the UK, but in Oz and America, it most certainly does have. So there ya go.

Shame Rick's contracted to go swimming with Fish again next season, innit?
